Things change so quickly. Never though this 'Green Movement' will create a designation for itself.
Thanks Realtor.org for taking initiative for this designation - it is lot more than just a designation - it is a lifestyle of the future.
As per them - agents should 'Prepare yourself for the future of real estate with NAR's Green Designation.'
And indeed, future of Real Estate is going to be selling Green Homes - more energy efficient home using pure fuel!
Learn everything you can - and earn this designation.
On my cards - though not so soon for me.

This is one of the very few NAR designations I have not yet earned. I did earn the EcoBroker back in 2006, which led me to Dena Stevens, which led me here to Active Rain, and I know that Jan Green does have the designation and places a lot of emphasis on it in her business. It's one for the list - perhaps even in 2017! We will see!

A couple years ago I did the online Green designation training and finished the certification. Being green happens to be a personal passion for me, so it was an easy fit! A lot of people I know are associated with the local Sierra Club group in my area, so I think having the Green designation helps me gain credibility in the real estate realm for when environmentalist friends of mine are ready to buy or sell a home. The designation training helped me become a more aware of green information sources relating to residential real estate. This information I can pass along to clients, prospects, family and friends. I know it will help grow my real estate business over time!

This is one of the most relevant new certifications you can get. It has practical application for day to day life and ways you can be informed and assist your buyers with making Green home purchases. The webinars and the resources available are very pertinent to what is happening and what buyers are wanting to know. It is very affordable and a fun class to take.

As a Certified EcoBroker since 2008, I can say that hands down the education is worth it's weight in Green! EcoBroker was created in 2002 and NAR Green came out in 2009, after I already earned my designation. I'm on the fence about having 2 green designations, but may end up taking the course if it is offered in Arizona. I'm in talks with the Arizona School of Real Estate about hosting a NAR Green course.
Being an EcoBroker (the other Green Designation as opposed to NAR Green) adds an extra set of tools to my toolbox and provides value added service for my clients. Clients appreciate the fact that I can explain the features and benefits of their green and energy efficient features. They like the fact that I can refer a list of resources for adding features to their home. And I understand the steps necessary to help reduce their energy bills, saving them money and helping them to make wise choices.
Let's face it, future homes will become even more energy efficient as new techniques and building products are created. So this market is expanding and we as agents should embrace that change by adding this designation to the list of initials behind our name.
I can walk clients through the process of selling/buying a home with a solar leased system for example. Marketing these features and explaining their value to potential buyers and sellers helps to bring value to the items they've spent money to add to their homes.
I also explain how to gain more value for homes with green and energy efficient features; when to use the Green & Energy Efficient Addendum as an attachment to an appraisal; how to interview the appraiser before they see the home to make sure they are Green Certified or understand how to appraise homes with green features.
And using my skills, I've greened the Arizona Regional MLS twice now (2009 and 2013) and volunteer with the US Green Building Council since 2009 to raise the bar for our homes in Arizona. It's immensely rewarding to be involved on a grass roots level!
Currently, I'm working on two events here in Phoenix. The first event is a panel discussion (12/2) with our local utility, APS, as a moderator. The panel includes Sandy Adomatis, Adomatis Appraisal Service & Vice Chair for Education at the Appraisal Institute, Punta Gorda, Florida; Chris Wass, Fireflying Living; and Matthew Thorne, Noval Home Loans. Together they will list the steps necessary of how "Capture the Value of Green - Step by Step."
My second event is a two day course for appraisers (12/3-4) with Sandy Adomatis as the instructor. This two day course will "Green Certify" appraisers. There are currently 4 appraisers who are Green Certified in all of Arizona. I'm working to fill 75 seats and make a huge change in our appraisal environment in Arizona!

Green homes are the future and are here now. They require less maintenance, cost less to live in and are a healthier environment with the emphasis on what they are built with and indoor air quality. All in all a win-win situation that necessary does not have to cost more.
As a NAR Green designee I have learned about these homes and can share my knowledge with buyers and sellers. I have heard too many Realtors giving out false or wrong information about green homes and regularly try to share with other Realtors the facts and highly recommend the NAR Green designation or any other Green Course affiliated with real estate.

I've had the GREEN designation by NAR for several years now and am glad that I did take the education as there was a lot of information that I was not aware of before. Although Green is not a huge factor in my market at the moment, this could change in the future. In any case, depending on the customer I work with at the time, I am comfortable pointing out any Green features that may be present in a home. Green does not mean the same for everyone and that is another important realization that I took away from the course, for some it's about saving the planet, for others it's just saving their wallet, thus GREEN saving green. On that note, there is an annual fee to maintain this designation.

It's always great to be able to access a larger pool of knowledge to help us as agents in the real estate industry. My particular interest and passion also happen to be helping the environment. Fortunately, the NAR Green designation offers a lot of tools for agents looking to build a business with greener homes. The online format of the course is very user friendly. Frequent multiple choice quizzes and tests helped me to retain more information. Networking tips are included in the course. Also, becoming a member of the Green Resource Council following successful completion of the training is a big perk. I can return to the Resource Council's website for more marketing tips and refresher courses. This NAR training is highly recommended!

Green is good. This kind of green is not about envy but about ecology. One major concern today is high-efficiency heating and cooling in the home and your buyers put these concerns at the top of their priority lists. It's one of many concerns that your buyers have about energy in today's home. The Green designation was created for agents who want to learn about energy efficiency and what it means to real estate. You'll have the confidence to address these concerns.

I think I might make some people mad but sorry folks this is my opinion. I am not just speaking for Green, I am talking about GRI, HS, CNE, CSP and on and on. I have seen realtors with 10 Acronyms after their title on the business card. Does it get you more business? Does it impress people? Do they even know what those Acronyms mean? More power to education but I can't sit through the classes.
Sometimes I think that some of these are just made up for the accredited real estate schools to make more money off of you. I like self study. Are you really a better sales person because you’re got your Green Designation? I got into real estate so I could be out and about and the last thing I personally want to do is sit in a class and then take a test.
Again sorry to all those people who worked hard, paid good money and passed the test. Wear your acronym with pride, it's just not for me. (I gave it 3 stars when I probably would have done 2.5 if I could).
