MarketLeader is a Major Rip-off (by gmintz)

I signed up with MarketLeader. 6 months and over $2,400 later, I was still waiting for my first good/real lead. So many of the leads were looking for foreclosures, or properties well below value. Many were in the $50,000 to $100,000 range. The average price for a home in my preferred zip code is $450,000. I was suppose to get leads that were interested in homes in this zip code, but the majority were outside of this zip code and well below the price-point of clients that I generally work with. When I cancelled my contract, MarketLeader "stole" my domain name. Now if a client types in my old domain name, it redirects to the MarketLeader website. Very unethical. Fortunately, I was somewhat skeptical of MarketLeader when I signed up and I used a .net extension (mydomain.net) instead of .com (my cards and other marketing materials all use .com (mydomain.com) and had mydomain.com redirect to my MarketLeader account. If you do sign up with MarketLeader, purchase your domain with both the .net and .com extensions and follow my lead. I am now signed up with a small web development company that focuses on the real estate industry. They are a WordPress company (develop sights that utilize WordPress). I have heard great things about them. It is going to cost $700 to build the site (and I will own the site). They are providing me with the tools & knowledge to blog and develop content that will hopefully generate leads. Save your money on MarketLeader. It is a huge rip-off. Use the money you were planning on spending on MarketLeadr to develop your own site that you will own and control.
