So there I am sitting at a Sheriff's staging area waiting for a disaster to strike when I receive a call. I look down at my phone and the caller ID says "Inna Ivchenko." Now normally when I'm on a mission (or waiting for one to start) I'm going to conserve battery and not take random calls, but seeing as how it was a local Rainmaker, I had to pick up the phone. "Hello Inna" is how I answered the phone (praying I pronounced her name right... after all this is the first time I've spoken with her). Inna was surprised that I knew she was calling, when we've never met or called each other before. I proceed to tell her about the app I have on my phone and she asked me to write a blog about it... so since I hate to disappoint, here it goes! All images are sample images from the Google Play Store app page (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.privacystar.android.tracfone), not from my personal device to protect the innocent. Call Detector for Android is the app that my office uses on all their mobile phones to protect against unwanted calls. Calls that it knows to be from scam artists are automatically blocked and calls from known telemarkets are easily identified as such. You also have the ability to block any call that comes in to your phone at the push of a button, as shown below. The app also comes with a reverse number caller ID, free for 30 days, that will lookup incoming calls to identify the caller instead of just displaying the phone number. This is how I knew Inna was calling me. There are two versions of this app, the free and the almost free. The free version gives you 30 days of the caller ID and other paid features. The annual subscription is a mere $15/yr. The subscription not only gives you the caller ID, but allows you to block multiple phone numbers at once. Say someone calls you from a company with multiple lines. Instead of having to block each line they call from, the app tells you that there are multiple known numbers and blocks them ALL for you! Talk about a time saver! The main screen shown above allows you to view activity, block a number, file a complaint against a number and read your text messages. It can also block spam texts! Below is a sample of the activity screen showing you which calls were blocked (in this case all of them) and how awesome of a job it does at blocking them. I've had this app for the better part of the year for fun and to block the occassional telemarketer (since no one enforces the do not call list or the laws about not making solicitations to mobile phone users). I kept my number very private, seldom giving it out, so I never felt the need to pay for the subscription. Now that I'm in real estate and I have my number plastered all over the internet, I get calls constantly from companies trying to sell me something. This tool has been great and has been very helpful in not only in blocking unwanted callers, but in making sure I take those calls that I want to take.
