Get to Know BJ Ray

In an industry where things can move rapidly, keeping my finger on its pulse is both a challenge and a thrill.  And in a region, like Greater Boston, where the texture and timbre can change dramatically from block to block and from street to street, there always seems to be something new to explore, to learn about and to share.

For my clients, for my business, I work hard to keep abreast of changes with both the Real Estate industry and the neighborhoods that define it.

Before becoming a Realtor, I wore many different hats.  I studied language and Comparative Literature in college with a concentration in film.  I am a drummer since I was 12 years old.  In recent years, I caught the acting bug and have performed in several local stage productions as well as some film work.  A lover of games of strategy, I play chess, poker and Catan regularly.

Professionally, I have worked as a writer at the MBTA's public relations department, I was a chef at the erstwhile Black Crow Caffe in JP, and was for over 5 years the publicity and booking manager for the Milky Way Lounge & Bella Luna Restaurant.  I still love and try to catch local music whenever possible.

Although I grew up on the North Shore in Lynn, Massachusetts, I have been a proud resident of Jamaica Plain since the mid-1990's. As a Bostonian, I both love and hate my local sports teams--I still consider October 2004 as one my life's great highlights!!

In my profession, I get to meet and to interact with so many different kinds of people.  Working in a business where there is much at stake and where the people involved generally aren't accustomed to its intensity, presents many challenges that, over the years, have really sculpted and strengthened my insight and acumen. With every transaction, there is something new to learn and a different challenge to overcome.

My business is primarily referral based.  My relationships with clients are very dear to me.  It is my intention to have a client for life.  It's important for my clients to know that far beyond the closing table, they have a resource and a friend they can call on anytime.

Thanks again for taking a moment to get to know me!

Certifications

My strengths as an agent/broker include but aren't limited to:

Data analysis.  No other agent in my local market utilizes market data to the degree that I do.  Decisions in real estate (buying or selling) shouldn't be based solely on market data, but it's inarguable that the data, its analysis and the insights derived are the foundation for any intelligent decision.

Product knowledge. After hundreds of home inspections, hours spent with contractors, builders, architects and developers, I acquired real and substantive hands-on knowledge of how a home works from the foundation to roofline.

Negotiation Theory.  The art of negotiating a deal isn't just drawing lines in the sand, as many inside and outside of my industry tend to believe.  When I am negotiating any aspect of a transaction, I feel its imperitive to take a hollistic approach by bringing all the facts together (whether they seem relevent or not) before proceeding.  There may be a dozen roads to get to where you want to be; it's my job to find the smoothest and most efficent one.

Follow-through.  I think it's worth mentioning that follow-through is a big component to a real estate agent's success.  It's not rocket science or surgery, it's a simple acknlowedgment that  one does what one says and delivers his/her promises.
