My first love in the industry is being that of a teacher as I think that it is extremely important for our industry to be knowledgeable about what we are doing.  I started in real estate sales in 1979 and worked for four years in Anne Arundel and Prince Georges Counties in Maryland.  During that time I earned my GRI.  In 1983, I was approached by an attorney, who had done a lot of closings for me, who hired me to open a branch office of his title company.  I ended up opening several other offices in the area for attorneys (closing in excess of 2000 residential loans) and then went to Chicago Title Insurance Company in Baltimore where I worked for four years in both management positions and as an agency auditor and representtive.  In 1991 I moved to Charlotte, NC where I was told I couldn't do closings any more as I wasn't an attorney.  I worked first in Financial Planning and then in Mortgage Loan Origination.  In 1998, I decided I wanted to teach as I had such an overall knowledge of the industry so I reactived my real estate broker's license (I had let it die in 1985 as I was no longer doing sales) and became state certified to teach in both North and South Carolina.   My husband and I moved to the Myrtle Beach, SC area in 2001, and since then I have been active in sales, teaching and as a Broker-in-Charge of a branch office of a large franchise in the area.  Since moving to MB, I had achieved several different designations such as the ABR (which I am certified to teach), the CRB and the CSP.  I am a certified Social media specialist.  I am also very active in my local Association of Realtors and am on the Board of Directors at both the state and local level.

Certifications

Recognizing the strength of Social Medial - especially as relating to marketing I decided this was an area I wanted to concentrate on learning.  I have read numerous books, taken a number of webinars and have recently earned my certification as a Social Media Specialist after taking an extensive and intensive training course.  I have also completed NAR's course on Web 2.0 which is an offshoot of the ePRO course.  One of my goals is to help those in our industry take their business to the next level by perfecting how they use social media. Because of my knowledge of the industry, I  understand the agent's concerns and know that I can help them in the their marketing efforts.  I can also work with them to help them decrease their and their brokers liability issues on the internet.
