About RETA - The Real Estate Training Academy

Real estate education & training is a wise investment.

Real Estate careers provide great ways to make a living and at RETA we prepare our students for many of them.

RETA became a state licensed proprietery school in 2006 when 323 hours of prelicense and continuing education classes were approved for real estate sales and appraising.  In addition classes for loan officer, home inspection and builder license exam prep were approved for RETA, School # 285.

RETA serves Genesee County and surrounding areas with a central location easily accessed from I-75 and I-69.  RETA is within a 45 minute commute from population centers in Saginaw, Oakland, Lapeer, Shiawassee, Tuscola, Bay and Livingston counties which have a combined population of over 1,000,000 people.

RETA uses a team teaching approach and hands on learning in many classes.

Team teaching allows students to learn the material from experts in related fields like real estate law, appraising, brokerage, title, lending, property management, home inspection and sureveying.  The concept has a two fold purpose.  Students are introduced to the team building concept so they can take advantage of the resources of the professionals in related fields.  Team teaching provides an opportunity for professionals who work with agents and appraisers to relate their experiences.  The instructors keep up with changes in their respective fields and can keep students current on how they will impact them in their real estate practices so both they and the students can better serve the public.

RETA uses a hands on approach whenever possible.  Because many of the careers in real estate are computer based certain classes are held in the computer lab, using industry softwear.   The students become familiar with the forms they will use in the field and how to access information they will rely on.

Certifications

RETA specializes in all things Real Estate in regards to licensing and training.

Real Estate agents and brokers are the most prevalent practitioners in the real estate community.  In the real estate industry there are many loan officers, appraisers, home inspectors, title professionals, surveyors and real estate attorneys to assist the public.  At RETA we provide classes and training to help you become more effective and knoweldgeable in your chosen profession.

Real Estate Sales:

Careers in real estate often start with a sales person license.  At RETA we have developed a class that has the potential of being the best 40 hour class offered anywhere.  RETA believes in the "team teaching" approach and uses professionals in the community to teach the fields they work in, as apposed to a single instructor teaching all fields.

Some may say that is over kill, and that a good instructor is capable of effectively teaching the introductory level of information required for a 40 hour real estate class.  That may be true, but what if you don't get a good instructor?  Even the best instructor cannot keep up with the changes in every field that take place from time to time and cannot draw on their past experience in every field from the perspective of the practioner in that field.  For example, the appraiser who teaches the chapter on valuation has completed over 10,000 appraisals and the attorney who teaches the chapter on contracts works exclusively with real estate law in her practice.

The goal at RETA is two fold, prepare students for the exam and provide a class that an individual who has an interest in real estate but may not be contemplating a career would take to gain knowledge about a very important part of their lives.

Over the years in real estate I have been told by many people that they always wanted to take a real estate class.  Sound familiar?  If you have been in real estate for very long you have probably heard that too.  My response to these people was to buy some good books and read them rather than spend their time in class.  In 1979 when I got my real estate license you were not required to take the 40 hour class to sit for the test, that changed a few years later.  Today when people tell me they want to take a real estate class for general knowledge I can honestly tell them "I have the class for you".

The next 40 hour real estate sales person class starts May 12'th 2008 and ends May 27'th 2008, this is an evening class from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. M-Th, M-TH, M & T.  The cost is $225.00 including the text book:  Michigan Real Estate Principals & Practice, by Marge Fraser.

RETA will be offerring this class once per month for the next few months and then twice per month with the addition of a 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. day class in August of 2008.  Students who miss classes can make them up by attending the next class.
