I invested eight years of my life as a missionary in Guatemala, Philippines, and Thailand because serving and giving are cornerstones of our Godly, American heritage.

As a missionary I have an impeccable record of trust and honesty.

My wife looks back, on some of the most harrowing experiences a person can have, with lighthearted enjoyment. WHY? Because I know how to make difficult things fun, and keep the focus on the goal.

My wife was traveling in a truck with my son and daughter when it stalled in the middle of a small river. On top of that we were on our way out of the jungle in the southern Philippines because we had found out that communist rebels wanted to kidnap us to help their election campaign. We were not able to get out of the jungle that night and had to find a place to sleep for the night in a village where I had only met one person on a previous trip. My wife remembers this trip fondly because we laughed at the over the top problems that came up and we focused on what we had been able to accomplish while we were there. My wife and I and our 2 children were waiting for a flight out of a city in Indonesia. The flight was supposed to take off at 8:30am. It was 1 of only 2 flights available per week. Which meant that if we missed this flight on Thursday we would have to wait until Monday to catch the next flight.  If that happened we would have to pay for new visas to stay in the country longer as well as hotels, food, etc. At 1:30pm they pulled a replacement plane to the gate that had been sitting on the runway for who knows how many years. Half of the overhead bins were sealed with duct tape or wired shut. Where my arm rest should have been was ragged metal. I had to slide the arm rest off the seat in front of me and slide it on to my seat so that my arm wouldn't get sliced up during the flight. The moment the plane took off my 2 year old daughter said "Daddy I have to go potty".  She was just learning so that meant now. I kept telling her "just a minute they'll turn off the seat belt light and we can go". We finally got her into the bathroom and on the toilet. When she sat down a swarm of cockroaches spread up the wall from behind the laminating around the toilet. I had to entertain her to keep her from noticing all the bugs spreading across the walls. Then the turbulence started. I had to hold her while holding on to the wall because the flapper at the bottom of the toilet was missing and the blue sewer fluid was splashing out of the toilet. At that point my daughter asked me "Daddy, why are you laughing"? I was laughing because I was thinking of how funny this story was going to be when I told it to my friends. I smile still comes to my face when I remember this flight.

You want someone who is trustworthy, gets the job done, and also helps you laugh and find the fun when its difficult.
