Get to know Tom Matthews
This is one of the few places it is more important to write about yourself than it is about your customer. So hear goes. My wife and I moved to Wilson County (Mt. Juliet) in May 2009 after spending most of our adult life in Chicago. What a great move! We have both said if we knew about Middle Tennessee 30 years ago, we would have raised our kids here.
I have been in the mortgage business for 15 years - both commercial and residential. As Branch Manager of Hometown Lenders, I have the best of all worlds. We are the largest FHA lender in Alabama (which is where our corporate headquarters is located) and we originate loans in 13 states in the Southeast. As your referral partner, you have the backing of a large regional company and the personal touch of my being local.
Our goal is simple. Find the best program available for our customer, give him the information he needs to make an informed decision and do not delay the process. While all the subprime loans are gone and we have lost some of the jumbo product that was popular, there are still a ton of loan options available to home buyers. From FHA to Conventional to Rural Development to THDA. And we do it all.
On the personal side, Donna and I have been married for 31 years, We have three grown children and our granddaughter is 9 years old. Our two girls have followed us down here to Middle Tennessee but our son is still a Chicago holdout (he loves the Bears and doesn't mind te cold!).
I am a private pilot and an avid scuba diver. I try to dive the caves of the Yucatan Peninsula twice a year. I am a board member and Treasureer of the Global Smile Foundation. This is a wonderful organization (based in Boston) that provides medical care to children in third world countries. I have been on missions with some of the best doctors in the world who also donate their time to this very worthy cause.
The company Donna and I have hired to coach us conducted a poll in 2009 and asked the top 675 realtors in the United States: What is the single most important thing you look for in your mortgage partner? The number one answer was "Close our loan on time" and the number two answer was "Bring added value to our relationship."
Well, you have spoken and we have listened. We launched our "Fast Track Underwrite Program" this year. There are two things a lender underwrites: the home buyer and the property. If you bring your buyer to us early in the process, we will collect the document and underwrite his file without a property while you are out showing homes. That means all we need is title, appraisal and a sales contract. We can now close this deal in two weeks rather than having to wait 30-45 days.
In closing, I hope all of you have a great 2010. The last two years have been a struggle for a lot of people. Time for the pendulum to swing back the other way.
