East, west and north of the city, you'll find the more contemporary planned developments, with smaller lots but also with newer homes, pools, tennis courts, and walking paths. Once you get just a bit firther outside of the Charlottesville "urban" ring, in areas like Earlysville, Ivy, and Keswick, you'll find a more rural environment, with 2+ acres lots in neighborhoods and along rural roads. Crozet, located west of the city, has been designated a growth area, and home buyers will find a number of new home communities in different price points. The adjacent counties of Greene and Fluvanna offer yet other types of neighborhoods, including Fluvanna's large lake community, Lake Monticello.
