I sometimes use them in tweets. I agree with Debbie Gartner that hashtags diminish readibility.

Silvia Dukes PA, REALTOR Hashtags put posts and comments in different categories. I see some post that are unreadable with hashtags, which is why I always use them at the end of the posts.
