Yes, people do not always change their phone#  these days.  An out of state number does not mean the person doesn't live down the street.

Evelyn, almost everyone who lives in Florida came from somewhere else!  I definitely answer out of state numbers but I also have a long list of spam/sales call numbers that show up on my phone as such.

Yes, I will answer for an out of state number for the same reason that Sandi Walker mentioned.  And I don't mind quickly ending a telemarketing call.

It depends. When I see an odd area code, no - inevitably those are spam or robo calls with no messages. BUt I get a good number of out of state call becuase of my focus on relocation so I have to be careful.

Our nearest border is pretty far but yes I will answer out of province or out of country calls. Unless it's a number I recognize as being a spammer.

I never answer out-of-state calls simply because I get so many telemarketers calling me, unfortunately. But, if I used my phone for strictly business, I would answer every call if possible.

Our calls go through a virtual receptionist (she is live), but not here.  She asks, who does this person want to speak to, Ron or myself?  The call is then directed to our individual cell phones.  It definitely separates the wheat from the chaff.  Every call that comes in is recorded on an online report, so that we can make sure that we have not missed a call.  We love this service.  A

I have blocked many out-of-state marketing numbers! And usually, I DO NOT pick up the phone if I am in the middle of something.

If I do pick up and if it a telemarketer, the number gets into 'blocked' list.

Yes Evelyn one of my Niches is out of state people moving to Evanston IL to attend Northwestern University so I get out of state calls every day, I have an 800 number fot that purpose

I grin and bear it, but always answer.  Seems that there is a 50/50 chance it is a marketer, but as Sandi said, these days people keep their same mobile number as they move from place to place and you don't want to miss a prospect.

Most of the time, unless I recognize the # as a previous telemarketer. Express Copy gas called so many times I recognize their # so I don't answer.

Of course, I do, Evelyn. Charlotte metro has tons of people relocating here so I'd be crazy not too. Plus, lots of my clients have relocated here and kept their old phone number with the out of state area code.

I do if I'm not F2F with a client( or in shower, etc.:) , the only time I don't answer the phone when it is 'blocked'~ 99 out of 100 those are marketing calls.

If I do not recognize the number I will let it go to answering.  If no message I can be sure not important.  If someone has left a message I return the call immediately and they are just as impressed as if I had answered the call originally.  Mark

It's difficult to know what's a telemarketer or a potential client. I answer all calls. If it's a recorded message or a telemarketer, it's easy to end the call. As Sandi Walker said, many people have out-of-state area codes on their cell phones but they may be living in the town next door!
