John, um, there is no such thing as a disaster-free zone.  It's just the kind of disaster.  I grew up in tornado alley, and now live downtown DC.  We haven't had a lot of disasters here, but we could.

Nope, I don't believe there is such a zone.  Everywhere has something that happens.

John, I'm pretty sure there are some areas that have never had disasters, or at the least not had any for a long, long time.  But, there are no guarantees that a disaster won't happen tomorrow.

That is a good condition. I think there are different levels of disaster and risk. I would much rather go through a blizzard than a tornado. You can run from a hurricane but a massive earthquake could just happen. I guess you pick your poison.

That is definitely a trick question.  There is no such thing....natural disasters can happen anywhere.  As a husband of a former actuary for an insurance company, that is the answer.

John,

That is a good question, and I don't know if there is such a thing as  disaster free zone...someone I don' t think it would be fun to live there!  How is that defined?

Living in fear of a disaster is no way to live.

The best disaster free zone is living in faith that God will take care of us.

I believe most parts of the country have their issues. It is hard to escape weather.

Patricia Kennedy Couldn't agree more. Unfortunately and sadly DC is ripe for a terrorist event at some point.

Evelyn Johnston "Everywhere has something that happens." That's a slogan answer. You win the award. Could be the poster child one liner of the day.

Scott Godzyk Pick your poison is right. I received some pretty interesting comments from some folks who felt pretty comfortable in their own skin about being out of the reach of disasters until I did a little research about where they lived and found that they to weren't entirely risk free.

Ron Marshall Didn't intend for it to be a "trick question". I've been writing a series of posts on disaster preparedness and was wondering if there was such a thing. But thanks for your comment none the less.

Ron & Alexandra Seigel It's beginning to look that way. I've been writing a series of posts on disaster preparedness, specifically earthquakes since I'm in SoCal as are you, but I'm beginning to realize from some of my comments that there's no such thing as "disaster free"
