With those Rainmakers that I "follow", it makes no difference to me whether it's "members only" or not.  It's still the headline that grabs my attention. In fact, sometimes it should get MORE responses because it may be a ticklish situation that the blogger explores but doesn't want to make it "public". Now those members who are NOT Rainmakers who can ONLY do "members only" posts, I might discount because, I feel, they are not as seriously committed to the AR community as those who are Rainmakers.

The character count made it really hard for me to make my question clear. I understand it limits to members-only, but considering that members are the only ones who interact in the first place, it doesn't make sense that posting members-only should reduce interaction from the normal levels on my posts.

Ah, Melanie, now I see what you're getting at.  Most likely this is driven by title/topic and the members are finding your Members only posts to be more interesting.  (BTW, we can't tell if a post is members only or public until after we click on it.

No it doesn't have any impact. Maybe your post titles are not as catchy on your Members Only posts.

The free membership is fine for exposure to the members. The posts will not be seen by prospects and members are unable to re-blog them.

The quality of your blogs and your networking will determine the views. Many members do try to reciprocate with comments. So, comment on lots of blogs and follow the bloggers you like.

Melanie,

All the members see it.  It does not restrict how many members see it.  Some subjects, it is best for the public not to see it, especially if someone is ranting and raving about their client, or is sharing a tragic moment in their lives. A

Yes, it does. As the name implies, only members of Active Rain can see these posts.  Neither the public nor google sees these posts.  They have very limited shelf life.
