It depends on if it grabs my interest Larry. If it is well written and interesting I don care how long it is.

I skim and get enough out of it in a few seconds to learn what I need to know.

Hi Larry -- I think there are other factors that I consider beyond length of the post.
Topic -- something that interests me, a new take on a subject or a unique topic
Author -- is it a member who I believe consistently delivers good content?
Presentation and layout --- is it easy to read? Photos or graphs. Proper spacing that makes it attractive. I typically avoid or quickly scan a post if is one long paragraph.

If it is a "wall of words" with no white space or graphics, it is too hard to read. Like others, it needs to grab me from the start.

"or I feel I will learn a lot, I will read on...even if it's 2000 words." expressed Debbie Gartner
A well crafted blog, just like a well crafted book, pulls the reader into the next paragraph. 2,000 words later you think, "That was fun."
Of incredibly great significance are Debbie's words, 'feel I will learn a lot' which is the foundation of the value you represent to the reader.
As writers we all should accept the challenge to improve our craftmanship as wordsmiths able to share so many dimensions of life that can lead to assuaging a need in a life of which we have no knowledge.
Will I read a 2000 word blog? Well, I read all of the Harry Potter books and am not a bit smarter as a result. So, yes I will read the blog whose title suggests aligned interest until such time the writer drives me away.

Larry... I don't judge by the number of words. I judge by the topic (ie, is it of interest to me). Then I judge by how well it's written and how easy to understand. If poorly written, I probably click out. If well written in good fonts with lots of white space, I'll read through to the end.

Unless it is interesting, Larry Johnston - 300 is my limit! (May be, I have a very short span - and not much focus when it comes to long blog posts....)

Larry, it all depends on how interesting a read the post is. If it's good I glad,y read 500 words. The number of words are not that important to me, sometimes I think the really short ones have only been posted to get the points.i

If it is excessively long I back out of it. That would be anything over 300 words, or what looks like 300 words, I don't sit there and count them...

For me, it generally depends on the subject matter. If it interests me and/or I feel I will learn a lot, I will read on...even if it's 2000 words. The biggest aspect is the topic. The 2nd biggest (and this is very important) is the formatting.
If it's a wall of words or small type, I'm out of there. If big/decent font w/ lots of white space (and ideally pictures) I am much more likely to stick around.

I can't answer that in the abstract. For me, it would depend upon how hooked I get from the opening sentences!
