Usually my Sellers turn into Buyers and I give them a Hot Dog Party and invite their family and friends and new neighbors into their home to see it and meet them.

I have sent gifts to out of town sellers. I once sent a gift card to a restaurant in their town I was told they liked.

I give a closing gift to each client whether a seller or buyer or both.  So, it depends upon the circumstance.  If they have left, I would likely send them a gift card in the form of an American Express gift card that they can use in most locations for many different things from entertainment to travel to home decor or improvement.

I like the party idea for buyers and saying thank you to the sellers with the gift card. These are great ideas.

I agree with William. It really depends on the client but whether it's a buyer or seller I usually make up a gift basket. I live in a college town so I try to support the locals and if we have something that is specifically made in my home town I usually include that in the baskets.

I love Evelyn Johnston idea!  I always give something, but it does depend on the client/purchase/sale.  It has ranged from a bottle of booze to a customized BBQ set to wine glasses with a bottle of wine I bought back from Italy to a fridge full of beer, water and soda for incoming out-of-towners.  I'm curious to see the reponses.  I have not had one steady gift, but maybe I should.

My gifts vary, depending on the client.  One of my clients is a writer/artist/photographer and I give his autographed book "Arizona Then and Now."  The book is priceless given that's it's autographed and shares Arizona history through photography and clients love it.  My biggest problem with that is that he is about to turn 93 and the book is out of print!  Onward to new gift ideas.

I give a gift to both the buyer and the seller, usually a magnum of french champagne or a $150 voucher to a good local restaurant but I also support a cause and for every home I sell I donate a backpack bed to the homeless, I do this buy purchasing a card which represents the donation and so I use that card as the Thank you card with the champagne or gift voucher, you can do this too by visiting www.backpackbeds.org and select donate it will say donate Australian or donate USA

Debbie Reynolds usually they do buy a bigger or smaller homes with me - so yes, if they do so, I have some gift for them.

However, if they move out of town - happened with two of them, I did not - so I need to change that. Thanks for the question that helps me do the right thing.

LOL...I'm with William Feela that "some don't deserve a gift", other than that I am generous even to those who have left the area.

Online gift certificates could be a good option for a seller in transit. Thanks for the good suggestions.

If they have already left town, a nice Thank You card with an American Express Gift card enclosed would work.

I sned a Penn Street Bakery cake to out of town sellers telling them it had been "sweet" doing business with them. If my seller is also a buyer in town, they get a purchase closing gift. (Besides, I've already "gifted" them when I reduce my listing commission for the double-ended transaction.)

Debbie,

In commercial real estate, we were given gifts, not the other way around.  I have met many top ranking residential agents who are getting gifts from their clients thanking them for their excellent work...but if that is what your marketplace is accustomed to, then you always send them a gift.  A

A thank you, or gift card is always an acceptable way to say thanks.  It is usually given at the closing. We try to find out where they are moving to before closing.

Nope.

My doctor and dentist don't give me any presents. And I don't expect anything from them...only good service.

One couple once asked me if I was going to give them a refrigerator or a stove!

I do thank clients for their business.

It really depends on the client.  Honestly, some don't deserve a gift.  I try and taylor  gift that fits the clients.  Gift cards to a home improvement store or a local restraunt as an example.
