My broker is smart.
Want folks to come to the meeting, there are two things that must be done:
- Publish an agenda
- Don't reward the late comers
- Feed the agents.
If #1 has no fabric, (i.e. intro to new virtual tour system) bagels and doughnuts or a buffet chef won't get me into the office.

I try to attend all of the office meetings. I do often find that there are some valuable nuggets of information shared that I may otherwise not have known. I am in a larger office (170+ agents) and it is nice to see some folks who I don't always run into day to day. Staying connected in this business is a plus.

Debbie, there are good reasons to have meetings (occasionally), such as to address VITAL decisions or SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS (example: broker is considering a change that affects everyone, and wants their input and participation in the decision); but MOST MEETINGS OFFER NO VALUE, WASTE TIME, AND DISRUPTS MORE SCHEDULES THAN JUST THOSE IN ATTENDANCE. Organization and preparation are often lacking as well. I am a strong proponent for having necessary meetings EARLY MORNING, so the day is not wrecked. Luncheon are usually a day wasting event: you lose the morning to preparation, and the afternoon to cleanup or for other unplanned events. I try to attend Continuing Education functions IF given reasonable advance notice. A notice of a Webinar scheduled for 11AM tomorrow does not work: the day is scheduled, and mid-day gets even more in the way. Video mail, texting and email bridges many of the gaps. It could be worse: we could be depending on smoke signals and pow wows.

What office meetings? Are they serving Cronuts? That would get me there.

I have missed our two last meetings and I hate that however I learn so much because our team of owners and managers do such a great job. They don't waste our time!

I attend as many as I can, being visible is good for learning, helping, and getting referrals.

I don't mind attending if the meeting has a purpose and the person running it controls the meeting. If they run amok I lose interest and do not want to waste my time.

Feeding agents works in my area. Lately the staff is asking the agents to bring the food. This is proving to be hit and miss. Agents are unpredictable and therefore may intend to come and then don't and you are missing part of the meal. It leaves you feeling less than satisfied.

I see we all agree if there is meat in the meeting it is worthwhile but other times it could be communicated via email or webinar.

It depends on where you are in your career too, if you are just starting out it is great to meet and learn from seasoned agents. For some, they are simply a waste of time.

Hi Debbie -- we have weekly office meetings which is followed by an office caravan of new listings -- there are also two other CB offices in the area with meetings/caravan the same day.
There is food served --- I don't care about that but it seems to have an impact for some. Although there is some good information shared(mortgage updates, legal, new forms, office stuff) it could be communicated through email but I understand that many don't seem to read. I wish the meetings had more "meat" in their focus and were less of an attempt to try and sell agents on often unproven marketing ideas.
We also have regional meetings to keep us posted on

Great question. As a broker/owner, I have gone back and forth on the frequency of meetings. I like to have important topics to discuss, but not many agents attend. Those that do attend seem to be energized by the comraderie and comments of their peers.

I try to attend our monthly company sales meeting. They send an email out afterwards with the most important information, but you can usually learn more by being there. They also have guest speakers and provide breakfast.

Debbie, we both work at home and it is a 24 mile roundtrip to the office so we prefer to receive information by email. If it is a very special program at our meeting that we feel we need to be there in person we will then attend.

My company has very few meetings, so I attend. It's a monthly lunch & learn and two "company wide" meetings per year. But when I was with companies that did weekly meetings, I did not go every week by any means.

to have a meeting for the sake of having one ..eh...if there is a topic of importance...and interest to us...we are there.

I attend most all office meetings. These days because of the technology, we don't get to see each other much especially the new agents that just joined the company

What I like is that our Broker does NOT have mandated office meetings. Our time is ours to do what we do best...Sell homes and condos ~

I"m in a small brokerage right now, but when I was affiliated with larger offices, I usually came to the office for meetings.

Debbie Reynolds - yes, I do. It gives you a sense of one-ness with the office.

I hate meetings. There are some that I'd like to attend, but they're few & far between. I'd prefer important updates via email or memo, and prefer to spend my time on production rather than sitting around for a meeting.

I rarely have office meetings. My agents are spread out. I have about 1 meeting a year and they come.

I attend as often as I can. Emails and memos are much more convenient with my busy schedule but our group shares a lot of information at our meetings so it's usually time well spent.

Even though we don't have to attend the office meetings, Agents are missing out on valuable information if they don't attend. We still communicte by every other means, phone, texting and emails. (sometimes yelling between rooms). IE: pick up the phone, it's for you! That's only if nobody else is in the offices.
