Hi Patricia - while a tornado warning in our area would be more than a bit out-of-the-ordinary, in our area I have a basic earthquake disaster strategy. It needs to be updated and more comprehensive. Good question not only to think about but to actually implement.

Yea...Summer fall spring and winter...we have a plan that will last us at least 2 weeks, even with some kind of major damage. Total destruction and we will be living elsewhere.

I have an emergency supply kit and a business contingency and disaster recovery plan. Make sure you have a backup plan for business. Many businesses do not recover after a disaster.
Tornadoes are more common at lower elevations in eastern Colorado. Pretty rare at higher elevations. We are at 6,000 feet. But we have some strong thunderstorms and hail storms.
I wrote some blog posts about having an emergency solar-powered AM/FM/weather radio and a long range two-way radio in case cell phone service goes out.

On Kauai it's hurricanes rather than tornadoes but YES we know what to do and have a plan. After Iniki most locals have their hurricance supplies and shelter plans.

I hope you are safe Patricia, and stay that way! Yes, we will see tornadoes here in about a month, and I go to the basement with a transistor radio with my kitties.

Yes becasue we do have tornados. At home we have an inground shelter in the garage which can be installed for as little as $2200. There are designated safe areas around the city including malls, but the worst thing you can do is try to drive away from it. We had a F5 in May 2013 and the hisghways were gridlocked. This is not like a hurricane where you have ample warning to leave town. A tornado may give you 15 minutes.

Yes. Last week we had a tornado warning. Hail was starting to rain down and me & my dogs were in the basement in a back room with no windows. I have a stock pile of water and food encase anything bad happens. I also have a stock pile of dog food!
