I did it 36 years ago.... one house at a time!!!!!  I like to have a better shot, and faster, at making a score....direct mail did it then, and it's still working now....

I agree with John McCormack.  I don't like it when people knock/solicit at my door and I think more often than not it would be unwelcome at others' doors.

We have what is called the Green River ordinance which restricts door-to-door salesman and soliciting. It's kind of a no call ordinance. ..

I think it works well if done in your farm area, or door knocking abound a listing that you are hosting an open house.

I believe in door knocking lead generation. But it is not for everyone. You must be consistent and not be afraid of rejection.

Only to reinforce mailing results. That was during the Great Recession. Those wish to work with me I saved their life and credit. Those hesitated had their homes lost by the bank. Most were confused and dragged out waited til last minutes.

These days I mail.

Hi Johnny - I don't door knock and never did on a consistent basis.  However, I did meet an out-of-town owner and made a connection several years ago.  A listing that sold with multiple offers in a popular neighborhood.

I know of quite a few success stories but door knocking wasn't something that I felt I wanted to do on a consistent basis.

I tried it when I first got into Real Estate 7 years ago and it felt like I was burning gas and wasting time to the point of no avail so I stopped and haven't done it lately and will never do it again. It was very demotivating and dissapointing to me that anything else.

You bet!

Success rate 100%.

I imagine your 'success rate' question does not align with the reality every door I knocked on was successfully knocked on.

So, you need to ask, "What was the goal, the purpose of that activity?"

For that answer, you need to pay extra.

I do like your inference to lost art. In the real estate business there is a deplorable lack of trade craft and an increasing evidence of xenophobia, that inserts the appearance of social for the reality of flesh.

A newbie can learn more in one hour of meeting the neighbors than 15 hours warming a stool in the conference room. But the industry has largely opted for the stool.....for all the reasons offered by others.

I do not like my door knocked on. So question to self, since you don't like it should you subject others to it?

Nope. Don't knock on my door and I won't knock on your door. I feel that people's time is too valuble for me to be wasting their time by knocking on their door. My name is eveywhere else. If they need my services they know where to find me!
