Most realtors in the US close 2-3 deals on the average. If one is average it is below poverty level. But more than 50% have "0" sales.
Only the top 10% or less get 90% of business, as Pareto law dictates. If income < expense it is obvious one is not going to make it as a "career".

Never give up, just work harder at getting better and the income will flow.

At this point? When I am not physically able to perform the job any longer. A lack of business is not a problem I have had to deal with, nor do I plan on it as the referrrals continue to compound.

Not even close. My working partner and I were discussing this at breakfast this morning. We talked about not how much you make but how much you keep. There are some folks who have all the outward signs of success but in reality are barely hanging on.

Don't know, I haven't gotten there yet. Having said that, if despite all efforts, expenses outweigh income by far and consistently, it may be better to stop betting on a losing horse.

Virtual Realty Consultants - some day...not in near future, though!
(Income is directly proportional to the amount of systematic lead generation one does for one's business!)

That's a good question and a hard one to answer. I thought I was at the point in April of 2008 when I had 4 out of 5 transactions fall through and I made $1000. I thought about getting out and going back to work in accounting. Instead I got on my knees and asked God for a financial miracle. I decided life was too short to go back to a 9-5 job. For now the only issue is, is this really what I am called to do in life. Or should I give it up and share the gospel. That is the only greener pastures I think of.

The ups and downs in the real estate business can become a burden but then all of a sudden the business picks up and your mood swings. I guess over the years I am becoming more selective who I work with and this actually makes me more productive. I will continue doing it this way and explore other opportunites like volunteering. I need to be active

It's like putting money where your mouth is and doing for yourself what you've been doing for others for years. I'm not certain that a complete break from this business is ever possible. Please excuse my reach!

When one's effort in real estate produces results that do not fullfill the GREATER PURPOSE, then you need to pursue what does provide that fulfillment.
An analysis of one's vocation and avocation is essential in fully seeing where the greatest fulfillment opportunity exists.

lack of business means you'd better STEP IT UP and get with the current programs on marketing..... if one has truly planned for the future, there's no reason to ever retire from the business....one's job description needs to change, but there should always be a significant amount of income that flows your way.... I'm on that path now....I haven't listed or sold a home since 2007... I certainly don't make the money that I did then, but I make 6 figures and I can work from anywhere and on my own schedule.... it works well....and it can be done until you don't remember how to open the laptop or both eyes close permanently!! whichever comes first.....
