People laugh when I tell them I mow my own yard. Always have and probably always will. I have zoysia grass (think golf greens). I usually cut it in alternating diagonal patterns (breaks the monotony) and creates an amazing effect!

Variable patterns every time...but few will mow from outside in if they care about lines as there is no way to get out without crossing the lines.

My neighbors really get confused when I go out in the middle and start mowing in an ever expanding circle....especially while chanting...

We eliminated our lawn and replaced it with garden area. The remaining grass is in the common area and is cut by HOA contractors. 

I mow mine differently each time!

I mow the lawn using my checkbook.  Write it to the lawn service.

My husband mows ours and varies the pattern.

When I had a lawn to mow with a ride on, I'd change it up every time.  Outside-in, inside-out, sometimes I even tried to draw pictures.

I don't mow my lawn; it's done for me by the HOA and I have no idea what they do.

neither I do rows from one side to the other.  And just for fun sometimes I skip and go back to mulch it up smaller.

I mow in Diagonal striped and then chnge the direction the next week, so it looks like squares.  I go from the inside out.

Form the outside in, didnt think about much until reading your question. 

In the days when I loved to mow the lawn on my garden tractor it varied.  Outside to in in a square or diagonal.

I mow my own lawn, not to save money but I find it therapeautic and a bit more exercise. As for my rentals I have a lawn service as I don't have time for all of them.

And to answer your question I change it up but I never start from the middle.

I consider it a bad use of my time and for $35 it is mowed and edged.

We live in a zero lot line, patio home, there is no grass to mow.

I think any lawn large enough to put a pattern on should really be turned into a garden or a pasture rather than an excuse to waste time and gas on every week.

Other than that you will have to ask my lawn guy how he mows it.

I don't mow my lawn but the lawn service starts on the perimeter and works inward.

I have to mow from the outside.  My wife will not let me start the mower inside.  Now that covers the lawn; but on the farm, it is mowed in random order: one cow goes one way while another goes differently.  But they do multi-task,:  they fertilize as they go.

Truthfully, I use a Ford Tractor and Bushhog at the farm.  My wife made the mistake a few years back of saying she wished she could get some exercise.  I suggested mowing the grass.  It worked, and so does she.

My wife cuts my rear yard so I will have to ask her. I cut the front and change the angle every few cuts.

I do remember doing the criss-cross mowing method when I was a kid -- I liked the order and the way it looked.
