I have had animals escape and frankly it makes me angry at the sellers. If they have a pet that is prone to slip through the door, contain the pet. Agents are there to show the house and that doesn't mean pet sitting.

You make every effort to catch the cat.  If the cat eludes you keep an eye on it and call listing agent ASAP.

One does not try to catch the cat. One must catch the cat ... period.  One does not leave the property until the cat is secured back inside the house.

The listing agent and/or seller needs to be notified as well.

That is what I would do.  But, animals love me so getting the cat would likely not be an issue.

You are responsible for visting the home and making sure instructions are followed.  I would call the agent immediately and then stay until resolved.

This is difficult because cats are very quick and could get  out as soon as you open the door. If I see this on the private remarks, I will call the agent right away and ask what I should do. So far, no cats have gotten out of the house. Thank goodness!

Sounds like a house to cross off my list of homes to show.

Call the owners and have them come find it right away, they really should have secured it before the showing.

Catch it?..there is not much worse than a cat bite...their little sharp teeth can bite to the bone rather quick.

Oh William - I would do just about anything to get that cat back in the house. Problem is that cats are so darned independent. I would also call the owners right away and let them know what happened.

I wouldn't leave until I got the cat back inside.  That being said, I have never had one escape on my watch (other than my own)

Oh my. I'll try to find the cat, however catching it is another matter. I'll call the LA and go from there. It's our responsibility to make sure that the house is in the same order as we found it, but catching the kitty is another. Would the seller be responsible for the Emergency visit if the cat injured the agent while trying to catch it?

I have told agents that I am NOT responsible for their pet getting out...so they need to have it secured because i am to old to run after them.

When the buyers were opening the door to leave, the cat shot out ahead of them!  I called the owner and she said not to worry it happens and he will come back.  The sellers were moving there belonging to the new residence and were not home for the next two days.  When they returned, the cat was waiting for them.  At the new residence this cat has never stepped outside the home again.
