I know this will sound snotty, S. Leanne Paynter ☼ Broward County, FL , but to call any kitchen a "gourmet" is a misuse of the word because "gourmet" is a person, not a thing. The word functions as a noun and to my knowledge has limited uses as an adjective to describe things that would be of or characteristic of a gourmet, such as gourmet meals or gourmet cooking, which suggest fancy ingrediants and elaborate preparation which a gourmet would appreciate and expect. This use as an adjective, in my opinion, does not extend to the kitchen itself, although I am certain that one can find supporting evidence to the contrary in modern online dictionaries.
Bottom line, though, the word identifies a person who is a connoisseur of food. Please don't use gourmet kitchen in your property descriptions. To do so will make you look uneducated, but it's your thing, do what you wanna do (Isley Bro's).
In my view, the proper use of gourmet with kitchen is to add an apostrophe, to wit: "What makes a kitchen a gourmet's kitchen?"
The answer, of course, is as David Barr noted - the cook.

Good question, and I believe it has to do with the quality of appliances and fixtures. If they are something you could see a professional chef use. Plus, larger work area with lots of storage. A kitchen that could easily whip up a gourmet meal.

Lots of nice cabinets, storage, work space, upscale appliances, double ovens and the like. In other words just not an updated kitchen.

Now on this days, Agents make there own description of their properties and believe or not they don't even use the auto spell from MLS.
A Kitchen Gourmet with stainless steal appliances, granite counter tops and wood cabinets is not a gourmet kitchen.
HG-TV says a gourmet kitchen is a combination between durable items and Restaurant kitchen.

professional grade appliances; 6 burner cooktops, preferably gas; great lighting; built-in fridges; dishwashers with stainless steel interiors; double ovens; great work space... granite counters and some stainless steel appliances do not a gourmet kitchen make.

Honestly, you just know when looking at one.
If you use the words gourmet kitchen you better hope that at least 7 out of 10 people would think the same thing. Otherwise be prepared for eyerolls and another reason for them to offer you a lower price.

I did a blog post on a subject like this. In my area and on many HGTV shows the term thrown around quite often is "Chef's Kitchen." It's a pet peeve of mine because many of the so-called "Chef's Kitchens" in a listing description are not actually chef/cook-friendly at all. I am a formally-trained chef, so I took the post from that angle in what actually makes a kitchen a "chef's kitchen" -- basically, what to look for in a kitchen if you like to cook.

As an industry classification for high-quality premium, the kitchen should include a wine rack, premium stove, sub-zero fridge and 2 ovens. That being said , most people think of Gourmet as a kitchen which will accommodate a chef. Large enough to prepare a gourmet meal.

The quality of the appliances, ie Viking. High end cabinets, generous counter space and storage. One often thinks of a 6 burner stove, built-in high-end refrigerator, double ovens, a warming drawer, etc. However, many times these kitchens look pristine....as if they are more for show than use!

Ha, ha, Good one Leanne! I never really figured that one... It seems it's not about what you have, but rather what you "do"...
>>Gourmet /ɡɔrˈmeɪ/ is a cultural ideal associated with the culinary arts of fine food and drink, or haute cuisine, which is characterized by refined, even elaborate preparations and presentations of aesthetically balanced meals of several contrasting, often quite rich courses. The term and its associated practices are usually used positively to describe people of refined taste and passion.<<

Pabst Blue ribbon in a white syrofoam cooler? not.
1.Gas stove- doesn't have to be Smeg Symphony, Bosch 700, Bertazonni Dual or Wolf but an electric stove is not for people who are foodies.
2. Counter top for chopping and clean dry food prep such as carrera marble for pastry dough and a wood block of some type
3. excellent light and ventilation
4. Refrigerator with bins and good storage
I would not say a microwave is gourmet, a trash compactor is old school (better to have bin space for recycle, and compost as gourmets have herb gardens). Perhaps natural sunlight over the sink to grow thyme.
A galley space can work great as oven to refrige is one step.
Personally if the oven can't fit a 26 pound turkey it fails
