I went with a big box when I first began. I guess it was okay but I quickly knew I was going to open my own doors.

I wanted a Century 21 for the training and selected one from an ad I saw.... too many towns away...stayed there for 2 weeks and then joined Century 21 in my own town....and I was on my way!!! quickly off the blocks!! and I attended every course they offered from the most basic to creating a plan.... short term and long range....

I interviewed 2-3 local brokers. I would do it differently now. I did not know all the right questions to ask. The training I received initially wasn't as good as it could have been.

I walked into the local Vista Realty office in Valencia, California and asked to speak with the person in charge. I had no knowledge of how real estate worked so I thought I'd find out as much as possible on this visit. Norm Cox was the Broker and he sat down and explained how real estate worked. Mr. Cox told me I could hang my license with the company once I became a Realtor. He gave me tapes to listen to in the meantime and said I could come back at any time to learn more about the office, community and real estate in general. I was the only one at Lumbleau Real Estate School that already had a job upon graduation. This made me proud. Vista Realty soon became Coldwell Banker Vista Realty and they put me through the Fast Start Program. I am forever grateful to Norm Cox for the encouragement and confidence he instilled in me.

As a newbie I was a new home agent for 2 years with a builder. Then I went to a lager builder to sale new homes. So I did it differently and I am very glad it worked out that way. I am now with KW!

Going through the interview process I visited 5 different brokerages. I like the office that the people I met there. I probably would have made the same decision today.

Ivan - I actually interviewed several brokers, and had some pretty good questions in mind. I think I had asked another agent or something to know what to ask about. Anyhow, I am not sure that I would have done anything differently.

I selected my first broker by referral from a friend who encouraged me to get in the business. He was great and became a great friend. He passed away and then it was time to select again. This time, I choose someone who I had done business with and had worked with on board committees. Wise choice, cannot imagine working any where else. I recommend you visit different offices and find one that fits your personal plan for the future.
