I learned to pass the real estate licensing exam through my real estate school training.
Everything I learned about real estate practice has been learned through my experiences, my observations, specific education and my continued on-the-job learning. You can also throw in specific coaching and ActiveRain as two very real-world activities that have taught me much more than the licensing course.

Real estate school teaches you to pass the test, but doesn't generally prepare you for real life real estate. It sounds as though the school you attended provided some situational knowledge, but I think most of the learning will come once you're working in the trenches.
I found it helped (and still does) to listen to and exchange stories with other realtors so when you encounter similar situations, you'll have an idea how to manage, handle or even better, prevent having to solve a problem.

????
I did not learn ANYTHING about the business of real estate in real estate school.
However, the laws, and voiding a trip to jail are essential things to know, but have nothing to do with making money.

Very little is learned in RE school compared to what is needed to succeed.

Most of what I know about Real Estate was learned long before RE school.

I learned that the million dollar seller, or buyer puts his pants on the same way as a $50K client; one leg at a time.

Rose King I would say learning the business from prospecting to a marketing standpoint.

I learned what was needed to past the test (and really not even that so much). Everything else has been from my experiences so far and taking classes after licensing.

I learned nothing in school that has helped in business. Most of my learning came from my own research on marketing & teaching myself. As far as real estate specific I'd say biggest lesson we all learn is each transaction and person you work with is different.

I could probably write books about what I learned that was not available in classes.

i read your question and snickered. great question. and others have said it better than i could. i will simply say real life is always better than books. because book writers typically dont "do". They may, but when they cross over from doing to writing, they stop doing.

What they don't tell you is that there are a lot of greedy people in this business who don't mind bending the rules to make a buck. Be careful who you trust. In the long run, the good ones win out so be a nice person and go out and make a good name for youself.

My biggest eye opener was realizing some brokers and top producers regularly wrote contracts with significant mistakes in them and didn't follow through on deadlines. I assumed as a newbie I was the one that would be making the mistakes, not catching them.
