Yes....over the years I have bought real estate as an investment.  It is paying real well. . . .  I rent out my properties as well as handle past client properties. . . . on my way to retirement. . . . .

It's part of the service I offer although not a signficant part of my business. 

I would not mind it for myself, as for doing it for others I'd rather not deal with it.

I started out doing rentals. I found that most of the people looking for the rentals were not qualified to get through the process.

I like to list rental listings and help find tenants.

I can definitely say I could do it as I have been a landlord for the past 34 years and owned a hotel which is sort of like being in the rental business.

I love it!  I have three rentals that I own.  They have allowed me great freedom and the ability to go into real estate.

Captain Wayne - As far as working with clients to help them find rental property, I would have to say no, am not interested. Most property managers won't even pay an agent anymore when they do bring a tenant.

As far as buying homes and renting them, yes. We have one rental property, and I would like to have at least a couple more within the next 5 years.

It definitely is not as glamorous as it sounds.  The teachers at the school I work in think that being a landlord is such a great idea.  Because we just sit back and get all that "extra" money each month.  They're sure I'll be able to retire soon.  Not so!  I have tried to point out that there are many expenses that go along with this - mortgage payments, insurances, property taxes, eviction costs, not to mention lost revenue for any periods of time where the unit isn't rented.  I no longer tell them anything  I just smile and nod.

Most are answering as if you were asking about being in the property management business. I won't do this because my E&O carrier won't cover me it takes a completely different set of skills to be a property manager. To run a rental/leasing division in our office - I have done this in the past but have now scaled it back to only rentals for our corporate relocation business (where rents are typically $5,000 and over per month) and landlord representation only. With over 164 colleges and universities in the greater boston area, there are plenty of non-realtor offices that do rentals the wrong-way, and my agents just get too frustrated with the clientele, the agents and the compensation.

Yes!  When I opened my own office in 2008, I picked up a 14 4-plex complex (56 units) to manage.  It was during the downturn in real estate.  I can't say I enjoyed it, but it wasn't bad and it did guarantee income to pay monthly office expenses and additional income.  My "sales" were gravy.  

I am in the rental business and my husband and I share the duties. We began buying rental properties 30 years ago and called it our retirement plan. Now we call it our inheritance to our kids.

not if I can help it... Tenants are pickier than buyer but has no money....

want brand new flooring, carpeting, do not like color etc....

It seems pretty time consuming. I'm thinking about getting a few properties and managing them myself, but I don't want to go beyond that. 

no.no.no. but... we are going to build a 50 unit rental complex and rent it. the saving grace is a professional rental crew on site with nerves of steel and ice in their veins :)

Been there...done that and after spending most on one month in court ...the court commissioner calling me by first name and telling me dirty jokes in the elevator...I was finished being a landlady....happy to sell it, not to own it !
