We are tropical casual here but that doesn't mean Daisy Dukes are acceptable. When an agent shows up in my face like that I do remark on it to their face. Once I asked a young gal who showed up in 4 inch spike heals and a massive clevage bearing mini dress which "profession" she was in.

Michael, I have to say I used to be 100% "dress for success" coming from San Francisco Bay Area. We'd never think of showing up to the office in less than a shirt & tie and typically a suit.

Now, I got a lot of flack in San Diego for dressing that way, they all called me "lawyer". I still wear a shirt & tie 4 days per week, but Fridays & Saturdays I must admit I wear "San Diego Acceptable". Which is more to the tune of Dockers and a Tommy Bahama shirt. In the Summer months showing property, it's a must. It's too hot for a tie here July-October.

I have to agree with you though, that agent you mentioned sounds like he/she doesn't care about making a professional impression. When I see agents here in flip flops & shorts or Adidas track suits, I really look at them as unprofessional.

I have always thought that agents should dress professionally.  While I had my company, I would stress the importance to all the agents.  And if an agent would have done it while in my company, they would have been warned ONCE!

Michael Thornton like any profession, there are good professional and they are 'casual' ones!

And benefit of doubt to them - perhaps they are too close to their clients....

I've never seen sweats and daisy dukes show up.  Nice shorts and a nice shirt yes.

Oh my!  I do not under stand dressy that way.  I was in a seminar that was stressed to dress business like.  I do dress business like and it makes my clients feel I am respected & responsible.  Daisy Duke I would not trust with my money.

Exclusively Representing ONLY Tampa Home Buyers hit a sore subject.

I showed a $2M home and waited outside for the agent to arrive.  From inside the home comes "the agent"  complete with her daisy duke shorts and cleavage popping out.

I thought it was the owner or one of the kids.  I thought she looked gross...she thought she looked good.

A terrible first impression.

Casual dress does not include the buttocks hanging out.

You would be surprised how many of their clients quickly contact an agent who does dress professional.  I had an agent show up at a showing, I shook the hand of their client, thinking it was the agent, when they pointed to the agent with a smirk.  I looked at him and said, "oh, I'm sorry for the mixup, I thought you would have been dressed appropriately for an appointment."  He looked at himself and said, "yea, I guess I don't look like I am doing business, do I?"  I laughed, "no, you don't, but let's see the property anyway."  The Buyer was quite embarrassed by their agent.

Since I am usually in business clothes, her buyers must draw some comparisons in their minds. For me; I try to remain open-minded and not alienate the agent in case they write an offer.
