I am neither for or against, I choose not to use them.  If the use of drones cause even one air traffic accident, then I would vote against them.

Sam Shueh If drones are used for real estate business, I don't have a problem with it. If used for invading someones privacy, the drone owner should be prosecuted. Aerial photography is nothing new to commercial real estate. It was used long before drones came along.

I have many homes sitting on large parcels of land and for those, I hire a drone photographer.  We just shot an equestrian centre at which no traditional photographs would work.  I've also been able to capture some amazing waterfront footage that would have been impossible otherwise.  There is a time and a place for drone photography but 'snooping' is never acceptable.

absolutely! In my area many homes are sold with several acres of land and it is a great tool for the consumer to see the layout of the land.

For real estate I personally have no issue with it,

In a country when one is allowed to carry a gun,  I can envision people with guns will try to shoot it down when it flys over their property.

I am all for them, if they can add value to the marketing.  Some friends of mine with a million dollar listing used a drone for a real nice arieal tour of the neighborhood going up to the house.  Professionally done and VERY impressive.  Did it help sell the house?  Probably not.  Did it help him get another listing and stand above other area agents?  ABSOLUTELY!

Now if Target's new Millenium Falcon drone has a camera on it, I am SO going to be using that!!

Yes, if it is for the sale of a property on large acreages. What better way to show case a property than seeing it from above. However, I truly don't see the need if it is for cookie cutter homes. Photos and videos are adequate.

Who bases whether they buy a home or not based on a aerial shot? We don't normally look at homes that way.  Sounds gimmicky

Drone photographs can be great for markting. However, real estate marketing is a commercial use and you need to be careful not to violate FAA regulations.

You could go broke with the legal defense costs in these cases.

Aloha Sam,

I think once the miscreants have fully vetted the criminal potential of the device and accidents from general use have accumulated and studied, government will hopefully have a better comprehension of what to allow and what not to allow as far as drone use is concerned. I don't think there is any question as to the usefulness of drones in Real Estate photography.

I just listened to a legal panel at State convention, and they said the FAA is now making all agents using drone shots where the owner did not have the license to fly.

I would have to say it all depends on the situation, on the house, area and so forth.  You do have to be very concern about privacy of the neighbors.

If it's flown by someone who knows what they're doing (and didn't just go out and buy a "new toy") and if privacy is respected then it can be used to enhance a property.

I don't think it's good if the star of the video is the drone itself and not the house.

And, above all, safety for not just planes in the air, but those on the ground. I've seen a RC airplane take out a porta potty.

I think it's great, as long as you're not trying to take shots over restricted air space.

I am for it for a beautiful front of the home shot or for large property. If only the FAA would grant me my permission I could start using it! They are as all government boddies slow as anything.

Yes.  But within limits.  The specific limit would be the scope of the footage being taken being restricted to the residence you are authorized to film and also that the drone does not enter the airspace of neighboring properties.

Of course!  As they are used according to the rules, I have no problem with them.  It's the hobbiests that i have a problem with.  They don't care about rules and ruins it for everyone else.

It's a helluva lot cheaper than having a Cessna 172 do a fly by although I find that many time pole photograhy can work equally as well without prying too deep.
