Um, have you had several houses "accidently" burn down? Our house value is in the $500K price range and we pay $500 a year, and live on an acre with a pool. I suspect that it might change from state to state? I know we are getting a good deal and also upped the insurance coverage for some $$$ personal items and run both the home and cars/trucks thru same company for a multiple discount. $5K? Wow, you just made me feel very, very good about the company I pay for our home owners insurance, thanks.

The price seems very high, but I'd suppose it depends on if you're in a high risk area, if you've had to make multiple claims or both.
I'd shop around for equal coverage and compare price points.

Over last couple of years homeowners insurance went up exponentially and yes $5K sounds too high but then its more than cost of the house that goes into determining the premiums

If I am paying...for anything....it's ALWAYS too high.
So what' new?
When it comes to the real resson I buy insurance, sink holes, the true cost becomes apparent. Then the 'denial of claim' profit structure of insurance companies makes the real cost crystal clear.

It is too high, of course... but we have to subsidize all the disasters that happen across the country, resulting in huge claims for the insurance companies. For example, can you imagine what the cost of replacing all those homes burned in this summers various wild fires is? Just sayin'.

It's getting worse and worse, Winston. The rates don't seem to make sense with the claims.

Insurance is one of those things, most likely you pay and pay while possible never having a claim, but we have to have it and when something major does happen it is good to have.
I don't pay nearly as much as you do, but I always feel it is to high. Never had an insurance claim car or home. So I am out a lot of money so far in my life.

Seems high, but then you live in Florida where hurricanes hit every year.

Folks, unless you live in S. Florida you don't have a clue about the costs of Homeowners Insurance. Though I like to think there are companies that offer lower rates...NOT. We pay for all this sunshine and a disasterous hurricane now and then...Florida?

I thought ours was outrageously high. It's a bit lower than yours, but the home is valued higher.

You do live in Hurricane Alley! Plus, did you include the Flood and Windstorm coverage in the premium noted?
