It depends.
If I'm expecting a call that has to do with that particular client, it gets answered.
Otherwise, it will likely go to voicemail.

My clients know that I'll not answer when I'm with somebody. That's why VoiceMail was created. And, like Raymond E. Camp I love the new text option if I see it is a cell number calling.

Patricia Kennedy my rule of thumb on everyting affecting my business is this; how would I react if I was the client and they took the call?
I am a BIG believer in doing onto others, as you would have them do to you. That is both in business, and personal life.

Unless I am in negotiations (and then a warn my client in advance that I might need to pick up the phone) or unless I'm waiting for an appointment confirmation for that client, the caller goes to voice mail.

I may do both depending. I usually know who is calling and why for the most part and sometimes I tell my in the moment person, I am expecting a call

Patricia,
I try not to take the call unless it is vital I do so. I explain to clients that I will do the same for them.

I let if go to voicemail, because I think its rude and then return the call as soon as possible. I'd be upset if someone did that to me.

Patricia Kennedy The client is the present top priority. All calls go to voice mail.

Normally it goes to voice mail. If it is a call I have been waiting for and vey important, I will key my clients in that I may have to take a call

Very very rarely and if I do, I'll let clients know ahead of time that I'm expecting that (work related) call.
Heard a saying a long time ago and still try to live it: Be where you are!

If I'm sitting with a builder/developer, the cell phone is on silent...everything goes into voicemail...I want NO distractions....and I need his full attention.

I hand the phone to Sasquatch who says,
"Remax Realtec Group, Annette Lawrence's office, how can I help you?"

Depends on the situation with the client I'm with. If we're engaged in a conversation, I let the call go to voicemail. If we're waiting on a home inspector, I'll take the call.

My phone allows me to send a text without answering. Personally I think taking the call is rude unless I warn the client prior about this super important call I am expecting.

Usually, my phone is on silent, and most likely, away, if I am meeting buyers at my office Patricia Kennedy .
At listing appointment, I do use cell phone to share mobile marketing and keep it on silent for all the time.
The challenge for me is to remember to put to back to normal (sound) mode after such appointments.

It all depends on the call! If it is one I'm waiting for or my rescue team Sergeant, I excuse myself and take the call. Otherwise, it all goes to voicemail.

Patricia,
We do not take the call. I also like Raymond E. Camp 's answer. The same goes when we are out having family time, friend time or time with each other. A

Pat,
It depends on the client, what we're doing and who calls. I had my phone go crazy earlier this week with a new client. I ignored it because our time was short and they deserved my undivided attention.
Sometimes, when I'm out showing homes and a call comes in, I might apologize to my clients and take it while they wander the home. I make it quick and get back to my clients.

UNLESS there is a earth shattering emergency unfolding which requires that only *I* can handle the phone call to resolve it, I let it go to voice mail and return when I can.
6,936
I let the phone call go to voicemail. Not only is it rude to answer a phone call while with a client or in a meeting, unless it is an emergency, it also shows your client that they are not your top priority. If they don't believe they are important while you are standing infront of them, they won't feel that way when you leave them and so much more work has to be done that they are trusting you with. Also, if you show them you have that kind of respect for people they will be more understanding when you miss their call later down the road.

Good morning Patricia. So much for the argument of having somebody answer your phones when you're engaged in business.
