Keeping them on an email list with regular messages is a good way to keep your name in front of them without being a nuisance. They will be surprised and delighted when you call to wish them a happy birthday.

Asking if there is anything you can do for the buyers after 30 days.  Then once a year or so.  The way it works if they feel they got their money worth they will recommend you.   But if you push for a referral like many agents feel that pain.   

Average Americans move like once every 10 years now. My referral rate is lower over time.  Many referrals do not pan or give up..... Not a sure thing these days.

I do it at random times. Not just because of a holiday. Remind them about SEV values around March and offer to make copies of appraisal for tax tribunal if necessary.
