Most of the scams were done by REO listing agents that manipulated the system to double end as many of their transactions as they possibly could. They need to sleep with themselves and perhaps one day will realize just how unfair and unethical they were.

There was many taking money to be "short sale negotiators" but laws requiring they be a lawyer or licensed agent took care of that. With foreclosures, the scams are those over seas rental scams renting empty homes.

Other than none of the officers of Bank of American went to prison, (current scam) I have been more than happy to view distressed real estate in the rear view mirror. The shady stuff seems to be relegated to auctions.
Those I have been a part of in the past 2 years, via local brokers, were exactly as advertised, each with expected bumps in the road, and clearly marked with "buyer beware" announcements.
