Like the National Rentacar comercial about being your own boss, I'm my own boss as most Realtors are (with the exception of redfin ones). No time off requests and no "TPS Reports" to deal with! Most things can be done electronically and remotely so if I am out of the area, no big deal. I can so everything I need to do, except send documents for signature, from my phone.

If I know I will be gone for a couple of weeks I will let my clients know a couple of weeks before. I tell my broker as a courtesy a couple of days before. I know my business is covered and there is nothing she will need to do.

Cayla - I guess I don't really have that issue. With today's technology, I can do almost everything remotely, except for showing homes. If I am going to be away, I will always ask someone in my office to show homes, and give them a portion of my commission once my clients purchase a home. I have a great relationship with my broker, as well as the other agents in our office, and there has never been an issue.
