It is too young for both. Being the dad of a daughter who is almost 16 should not be a home owner just yet. Thye need to learn to balance a check book. Being able to earn enough money to pay for it. Even at 18, most people are not ready to buy a home. When it comes to voting, there are some 16 years olds that follow politics, but most if it is not on their Instagram, have no clue who is running or why.  

Yes I do think 16 is too young to vote - look what just happened in Canada with all the students voting for someone "hot and will legalize weed"!!

Is there really an age limit on maturity or good judgement.

It used to be one is old enough to fight and die for America could NOT vote.

Now one is old enough to vote and voice (teen) opinion do not have to serve the country.

Too young. Tell me, unless for 'neccesaries' will the DC Courts enforce contracts when one of the parties is under the age of 18? This, I believe, is the guideline that should be followed.

Good morning Lise. Heck yes, it should be connected to an ability to join the military. If that minimum age is 18, they that is where it should be for voting.

Glad you could tie it back in, LOL!  I am against this.  Unless they are going the way of Europe where at 16 you are a full fledged adult, I do not feel that minors should be able to vote.  Susan Emo has a great reason why.  That's how Bill Clinton got elected (his late night TV saxophone playing got a lot of teens convincing their parents he was "cool").  The younger generations are voting with other people's pocket books.  All you have to do to win today is say "Free stuff"

My personal opinion is that 16 is too young. You never know what to expect next from the DC government.

The DC government needs to have their collective heads examined.

I think maybe there should be a requirement to hold a full time for 1+ years before you can vote, age would not matter then and people actually understand that all those cool benefits you get when not working come out of working peoples checks not from the government.

They say the brain isn't fully developed till 25-ish and I wonder about 30, even. And nowadays, kids make decisions based on hormones and crowdsourcing. Gee, what could go wrong there? :D

Now buying a real estate - I do not think that should be a concern. A senior family member can guide them on what to do.

Owning a house then is just crazy.  Shouldn't they be living at home and going to school?  They need to learn how to balance a checkbook and responsibly manage credit cards...plus establish credit.  Oh yeah, and maybe get a job....but shouldn't they still be in school?  Crazy.  That is setting a bad precedent.

I have less issues w/ them voting, but again not sure that would be done responsibly either.  Then again, not sure the majority of Americans do it responsibly either.

Didn't they change the voting age down from 21 to 18 to coincide w/ when people could get drafted.

I think things are just fine as they are.

I bought my first home at 21 and barely knew what I was doing. I think it's too young for both. But maybe some sort of prep-to-vote program would be great so more turned out to the poles when they were 18+.

I know I was too young at 16 for either. 

Because of the distortion, skew  and subversive influence tax dollars impose on capital cities, no citizen in a national or state capital should be allowed to vote. Never mind that little constitution thing.

The majority are in essence voting for their job or the job of their neighbor or family.

In your example, identify the special interest group behind this and the issue becomes clear.
