It is a cool neutral (if there is such a thing) that every other colour will work well with.  In Kauai I'd certainly want to splash it up with some vibrant accents!

It depends on size of room and lighting in the room. Sometimes even a light gray can be too dark. But grey is more common than it use to be.

It is making a comeback. Was popular in the early 90's then faded away and now is back!

Kathleen - Yes, I do believe that gray is becoming more popular. I see gray walls, as well as gray tile being used in a lot of new and remodeled homes.

I'm actually tired of gray.  I did my greatroom in it in 2002.  I'm ready to set the next trend. LOL

Kathleen,
Gray is a fickle color. It can look great in certain light but can also be too “down” in the wrong light.

yes, but I have seen a mix of light grays and dark grays.  Dark grays mostly in the bedrooms and TV rooms.

We're seeing a lot of light gray with white trim.  Of course, the weather is gray here.  Maybe you should be using blues and yellows!

Oh yes, it is HUGE here in NY and has been for many years.  It is so hot.

It's probably the most popular paint color now.  it's big in tile, carpet and now in wood and now in cabinets, too.

That being said, not sure it's the best choice in Hawaii as it's a cool color and you are a warm environment.

Kathleen,

It would be the last color I would recommend for Kauai, in my opinion.  It is a cold color, unless it has a bit of brown in it to warm it up.   And I have not seen any gray here either, more rich warm colors.

Kauai is so beautiful and it were my home, I would chose colors that would bring the outdoor in...A
