I like a good mix. We all do it differently and that's the beauty of blogging.

Everyone has their own style in terms of how they run their business and how blogging supports that business. Everyone should be allowed to make that decision for themselves as to how personal they do or don't want to be on a blog platform. As for aiming for the AR community--again it needs to be a personal choice.

Good morning Karen. Being personal as part of our blogging philosophy is a personal choice, one that not everyone is comfortable with, maybe that is the case with the person you mentioned. Let them do it the way they are comfortable, at least they are participating .

Karen,
If your goal is to get readears among your clients, then you need to mix it up. If you just write marketing reports and talk about your listings, why would one of your clients or a referral person follow you.
There is a blogger I know of who writes the best marketing reports and they are very interesting to read. He has made a name for himself in his community, and the whole community reads his post. He is also one of the top producers ranking #3 among the agents in his marketplace! A

Depends on the person I believe. Some are uncomfortable stepping away from impersonal. When I started it felt like I was kinda opening my front door for anyone to look inside my home. Others seem to be posting listings etc strictly to attract business. As always to each his own. Even if it means admitting to eating some crow pie. Mark

I'm with Patricia Kennedy ...I relate best to the bloggers that mix it up. You know business and pleasure. Although not everyone uses this site for social reasons. Some are here strictly for the google juice and business only. One of the neat things about this site is that you can make of it what you want.
Those that interact, though, do benefit from getting to know and meet other agents and this could possibly lead to referrals. I know I've sent out several referrals this year, and they tend to go to the agents I know on a business and personal level.

Karen Fiddler, Broker/Owner I am perhaps the 'guilty' party here....lol!
I do post mainly market reports and of course, participate in contests - which allows me to be little creative. I have posted about me few times and about the community and events,, too - though not much.
However, I have limited vocabulary to write 'fluent' posts that I enjoy from many prolific bloggers here and I feel I am not a good 'blogger'.
I want to change that, however, the mindset........
Well, I am going to work on it and you may find something different from me, perhaps once a week to begin with.
(I know this is a simple question not aimed at anyone.)

Karen, I did reach out to one blogger and they only post local events. I told them if someone was looking for a REALTOR that did business, no one would know they did. Some bloggers want only the business side to be seen on-line.

My opinion has always been to market to your Avatar.... nothing to do with the community or localism posts.... the phone will ring when you target who you want to read the post....

Are they getting the results they want?
Such 'business' blogging, when supported by direct response marketing, can be incredibly successful. It is NOT necessary to tell the world about every emotion that enters one's life.
However, even in the business posts, better response will be obtained if the writers view, opinion, observation, interpretation or analysis is identified.

My favorite bloggers are the ones who mix it up, with some listing and market report posts and others that give us a snapshot of who the are.

My husband says this site is a very heavy site and has great rankings in the search engines, so I presume that's what the majority of the posters sign up for. More or less to piggy-back off of this site to help boost their own site rankings. From a pure marketing stand point, I would have to agree it's a very smart move. I've noticed some here are pretty adept are marketing their listings. I wish them great success.

Yes. I would recommend a change. Share some of your personal interests in your blogs.
Take a few photowalks and your photographs will give you topics for plenty of blogs about your community.

I don't worry about what other members put on their blog. ActiveRain does not have any rules about the required content; it only has some rules about what is not allowed. Each member puts content onto their blog based on whatever they feel is most useful for their business.

It's definitley a lot more Public Relations friendly if they post things that are more personal, and public relations is a very important component of what we do. If the person is already doing well for themselves without being personal, then that's how they choose to run their business - they clearly have other strengths. If they are a new member/agent, then it would be wise to suggest to them to show a little more character. I would just tell them that it's important for colleagues to get to know them for networking purposes, and they might even enjoy it. Something diplomatic along those lines.

Some people are comfortable with the market stats, listings etc and might not be comfortable expanding into other areas. In time they may branch out into other areas. Whatever makes them happy is what they should be doing.

Karen, it is difficult for me to post about my personal life because for so many years I've fought to keep it completely off the radar. Up until this year, there was only ONE reference to me online! And that was from 1998 and burried on page 4 of the Google Results page!!! I do post recipes and rescues because that is of interest and shows the personal side without going to indepth. Most of my posts though are they market reports, listings, etc. that show the professional side (and let's face it, I need all the AR business related love I can get to make the Google happy).
