COE is not emphasized enough. I got virtually zero value from prelicensing class, and I don't recall COE mentioned at all. FORTUNATELY, my first broker who trained me for my first 3 years was very COE, very 'golden rule', very 'do well by doing good'. I have always maintained that charm school be requisite for new agents. And I am only semi-kidding. If agents could be taught 2 phrases to use during transactions, "PLEASE/THANK YOU" and "RECEIVED" I would consider that 'YUGE' as The Donald would say.  :D

I received my first license in NYC, where only the actual brokerage firms belonged to the NAR, so I have to say no. In Charlotte, it was mentioned in passing at the pre-licensing and "studied" in more depth only in orientation when we joined the local board and mls.

I do not recollect anything about Code Of Ethics during pre-licensing course, though - or may be, vaguely I do remember something now....

It is unfortunate when people fail to adopt a code of ethics for their business and for their lives.

We make sure that it is lived in our business and in our lives.

Yes it was in my training material and the first Real Estate Association I joined required a short test over the Code  Of Ethics before you could do anything.  It's also in our first 2 yrs of training.  I think some agents just don't abide either way.

I don't recall it being taught in the late 90s when I had my pre-licensing classes.  When you join the board you are forced into joining NAR, but there is never a mention of the code of ethics.  I doubt that many realtors here even know it exists.  I'm convinced the public has no clue it (or the NAR) even exists!  I didn't know it existed until I started seeing questions about it on AR.  After some quick research, the way we were forced into joining NAR out here makes the COE null and void.

Pennsylvania pre-license has section on ethics but not specific to Realtor Code of Ethics as not all licensees are Realtors.  When agents join the local board they are required to take online ethics class as well as meetthe quadrennial requirement.
