The real increase in the use of solar energy will come when builders include solar panels in the original construction.

You would think in south Florida everyone would have it. The reality is it takes like 11 years to break even and most people move every 7 years. Our electricity is so inexpensive it doesn't make much sense. A lot of our elec. is generated by solar for the power company so maybe we are increasing in the big picture!

Yes - and the leased systems can complicate resale.

I cant remember the last time that I saw a solar panel here. Take that back, they have a LOT of them on the Copper & Kings brandy distillery here.

Our state in a foolish move put an extra tax on those who install solar. Nothing like living in a fossil fuel state.

I've seen many roofs covered with panels...and the price range of homes are mostly very moderately priced cape style homes.... high $300k range....

We haven't seen any impact from solar energy to speak of here in Charlotte, so can't respond on the issue of a price point for homes with it.

Good morning Sally. Solar has become a real problem. If the panels are leased the value cannot be included as part of the value as they are not owned and a real problem of the company will not subordinate to a new mortgage.

We are seeing, and when we lived in Napa, wineries were the first to do that and are still leading the way.  Some home in SB have it, our road signs do and some of the highway signs also.  A

In San Diego County it is very popular. In Florida, not so much and it doesn't add up to me. The savings are huge. Price change for solar depends a great deal on whether leased or owned and capacity of the system. 

I've seen people move away from having it on the roof of their home to having much larger separate panels on adjacent lots, etc.  Our rural properties have many.  I just sold a place that brings in an extra $13K per year - was a big incentive to purchase.

Few people approached me to change over to Solar along with marketing pieces I receive in mail and junk emails.

In CT I do not see much solar power in the residential sector as yet, although there were gov't subsidies offered and the cost of installation is going down. Now with heating oil being so much cheaper, wonder what will happen to the solar effort.

For my homes in town I dont think that it is worth the investment, but my rural place where the price of electricity is much higher I have installed panels and cut the cord to the local elect coop.

Great question!  We are seeing more solar energy in our area.  It's usually around the $250,000 price point and up.  Our average sales price in our area is $125,000.

Solar is not popular with buyers. I don’t see new installations or hear people talking about it.

We aren't seeing too much of a gain in this segment of the market...yet. I think it will come soon, though. 

Yes, the popularity of leased systems is picking up and really FUBARing resale.  Plus so many of the installs are UGLY!

I've seen solar gain popularity with homes $200,000 and up in the Las Vegas area. One caveat is that the panels are frequently leased, which can impact the sale of the house. Also, our Public Utilities Commission just ruled favorably for Nevada Energy regarding rates, and some are saying this may cause the loss of 2-3000 jobs in the solar field. We'll be watching this closely in 2016.

Solar panels here in AZ are just not cost effective. The summer sun damages them too much after several years to where they only produce 1/2 of their rated capacity if even that.

It is popular here in the Mile High City.  Many builders are including panels on the new homes.  I haven't seen it affect home prices yet because there are still many who do NOT want solar and it hinders the sale.

Solar isn't as popular in my area.  Government is trying to push it, but it hasn't caught on yet.

We see them but they are still fairly rare.  In price ranges from mid to high. Most are leased which can be an issue for those obtaining a mortgage depending on buyer qualification ratios.

Our area got flooded this year with solar as teh state had great subsidies, those all expire January 1st so who know what will happen now. 

We are seeing more solar panels, especially since we see lots of sunshine.  Usually in the 300K+ price points. 

I've noticed some, but not a ton.  Come to think of it, I almost never see them on very expensive homes....more mid range.

we get 50 to 60 inches of rain a year.  Nope, solar might not keep you warm in our short winter days either.

Because it is so costly we don't see much of it and only in the higher end custom homes over $500,000.

There is a home 4 sale across the street close to 1 yr now. People prefer solar and private well. I think the city water bill is over $1000/mo  in the summer with fines and heated pool and rest of 5000 sf house scared every potential buyer.

Probably 250k, and solar is increasing in interest here. City Hall is covered in panels and we have/have had a couple of somewhat controversial proposed farm projects. Personal residential use, the ROI is questionable for many still. And as Tony and Suzanne Marriott, Associate Brokers said, can cluster resale if the system is not bought right.
