I'm an ex-smoker with 20 years of being a non smoker...and I detest smoking....it should be banned outside as well as inside....

I love my cigar while mowing the lawn or playing golf; as to cigarettes quit twice and free of them for a while now!

As I used to tell the cigarette girls when they came around "I only smoke when I'm on fire..."

Not a smoker, never was and never will. SO happy all restaurants are smoke free now

I have never been a smoker but have heard that nicotine is a very difficult addiction to break.

I quit smoking about 33 years ago and I cannot stand the smell now.  

I am not a smoker and never have been. I figured I was always too cheap to invest in cigarettes and never liked the smell of cigarette breath or the stink it left on clothes, cars and homes.

Way back when (around 1973ish) I started smoking. I smoked for about 10 years or so and was smoking 2 packs a day when I quit.  I quit cold turkey and have never gone back... but it took about another 10 years before I really did not want to. Coffee and alcohol made me want to smoke for at least a decade.

Smoking is just horrible.  I did smoke way back when.  I was never a big smoker ... more social if that makes sense.  I stopped smoking about 36 years ago when I was pregnant with my son.

38 years without now. I decided I wanted to live longer and healthier and it wasn't just the smoking.

I'm not smoking right now.  I have not smoked for a seven year period since I first started, but went back.  I fight it every day.  I want to smoke, I'm just not doing it.  Why? because it's very relaxing to me.   I may not ever smoke another cigarette. But it will always be just because I'm not smoking, not because I quit.  One day at time, not smoking today.

I am not one but am constantly wondering what drives any young person to start up this habit in our modern world with all the research on the health aspects as well as the cost and other restrictions.

Yet I still see young people standing out in the cold, burning up expensive cigarettes that they know are killing them.

Good morning Susan. I smoked for three years as a teenager, but one day just decided enough. Hate to tell you how many years ago that was.

I stopped because it smells so awful.

Susan Emo not a smoker. And I know it's difficult to quit - quit any habit that is considered a threat to health.

I tried a couple when I was a teenager like most teenagers do. Didn't like it so I never touched them again.
