I begrudgingly hold on to mine til the very last second!!! I write the cheque, kicking and screaming each year knowing that it does absolutely nothing but make me feel good at the time. I fold the cheque 3 times and staple it too
History Lesson:
In 1917, the wartime government under Sir Robert Borden, imposed a "temporary" income tax to cover expenses. Despite the new tax the Canadian government ran up considerable debts during the war and were unable to forego income tax revenue after the war ended. With the election of the Liberal government of Prime Minister William Lyon Mackenzie King, much of the National Policy was dismantled and income tax has remained in place ever since. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I pay them early. We have more than one business and I pay early so I know that whatever is left is mine to spend or in my case invest.

I have not yet had to start, since up to this year I was working an 8-5 job. I will likely have to start this year though. I did pay quarterlies once a decade or so ago. Not sure why, since I was still doing an 8-5 or maybe I was between jobs for a slight spell. Not sure.

Yes. I put 25-30% of each commission aside in a tax account and empty it quarterly.

Absolutely, when you add up penalties you have the money wasted for a great vacation.
