In CA, we are required to take a written test. I renewed last year my car and bike license and had to take two written tests. Yet, I do not believe it makes us better drivers and deal with traffic rage:)

Vern Eaton Watch people on the roads who roll through stop signs and run red lights. Would retesting them help? People with road rage need to take an anger management course.

Vern,

It may be a good idea given all the new laws.  Our new laws are often advertised on freeway lightboard signs.  A

I do not think  that a written exam would have any long term effect. I do think if a required 'carry law' was in effect, then everyone would be more courteous!

Even the over 80 crowd doesn't have to write an exam any more . . .  they have to sit through a lecture and then draw hands on a clock for a specific time -  I know several who failed !!   (I think they still drive though as it is only a piece of paper and they never took a test to get it 60+ years ago!)

I don't think a written exam is going to change anyones mental state.  Perhaps a psychological exam would be more appropriate.

You can pass a test, but I don't think it will make people more considerate or better drivers.

I don't think a written exam would be enough. Think a road test should be required too.

Exams will do nothing.  Out here we have to take a basic rules of the road exam every few renewals.  Doesn't do squat for improving people's driving.  Just like CE courses don't make you a better realtor...

EVERYONE hates going to the DMV. That makes it a PERFECT place to apply a RQ test (Rage Quotient) provided all entrances are covered with a metal detector.

If during any response to deliberate questions/requests hands raise above the shoulder, hand them a card to call Uber for a ride home.

I think to combat road rage a psychologcial test would be required. I think it's a good idea but funding??

I think everyone that texts & drives deserves a day in jail cleaning toilets.

Ontario already has a law requiring written exams upon renewal, if the driver meets specific conditions.
