Sometines I do ong for days before smartphones, computers, etc. I did real estate in those days. I did corporate finance in the days before fax and voice mail. And somehow we got lots of deals done with much less stress being constantly tethered to these electronic jailers!

For our job it has been very handy. For my " life" and the effect it has on society I see it as a huge detriment. I can give you at least 100 answers why.

From an information overload perspective. yes but on the other hand the process of conducting the business basics of submitting contracts and getting signatures is dramatically more efficient today. Digitize me!

Maybe a little of both...people are so addicted to the phones it makes for lack of social graces... but on the other hand it sure is nice to be so connected to clients and data and contracts and everything.... it does make life easier for our fast paced business.

Paul S. Henderson, Realtor, Broker, Tacoma Washington When I first got into real estate there weren't even any fax machines. I did like those days better.

Not in tech heaven, but I do remember those days when there were no cell phones, computers and the like. I can remember the first time a calculator came on the market. It was a revelation in technology.

My first cell phone cost $799, plus the monthly fee. In 1990 or 1991. It only worked "downtown" for the first few years, but it was incredible.
Today, this spyware tracking device I call a smartphone is reporting everything I do and say to the NSA and 3rd party advertisers. There is a mountain of apps on this thing that I cannot get rid of without doing a root hack (Google Android).
I prefer my wife's "dumb phone", which makes telephone calls, texts, and does little else.

Paul - I think if I knew technology better I would be in tech heaven. The problem is things change so often it's hard to keep up.

My life was less fulfilling prior to having a smartphone and internet access. It is so much fun to learn now.

I never look back living in now. I like the way it is and looking forward to other new technologies ( exception: GMO and similar technologies freak me out).

No. I create my environment. I do not allow my devices or technology to control me ... I control them.

Yep I do, despite liking what the smartphone can do. It's dramatically changed how and when we communicate, and not always for the better.

Those days were good but what we did in the past may have little to do with current or future success.

We control the technology. The iPhone 4S meets our needs, so we haven't upgraded to the latest and greatest. My iPhone "lives" in the car. I do use iMessage for texting from my desktop during business hours. I don't allow the technology to be with me 24/7 and interfere with my life...

Sometimes I do wish for the days before all this technology, then I call someone on my cell phone or ask Siri a question!

My college friends and I always talk about how happy we were that we didn't have Smartphones. I wish my kids didn't love theirs so much. It was nice 10 years ago not to have people constantly texting, calling, and emailing and demanding an immediate response. I was texted by a client at 10:04 last night, and again at 10:20 to see if I had gotten the first text. Phone was already off and I was in bed! There are no boundaries. However, not sure what I would do without it.

It's a love-hate relationship! I've learned to use airplace mode for certain spurts to take me off the grid and focus on a task/event at hand.

I do love the technology and assistance i get on the road or in the card to do my job. What i do not like is the extent people bury their head in their phone and are missing what makes life worth living

Before smartphones.
2004. List all the other stuff that would also be gone. I'm good in 2016. smartphone and all.
