You better have a good one or your dead in the water. I don't agree that 'everyone' uses Z, T or R. They search where they have the least hassles.

I have several hit my web site every week looking for homes, and would never remove my IDX.  

If you have a good one with a good feed that distinguishes between "active" and "backup offers only" AND can get your clients to use them, they can be great tools for collaborative home shopping.  If not, I wouldn't waste time on it.  I've chosen not to implement them on my site.

In almost every case a Realtor has been inside the house for a better evaluation that the rest.

IDX is not as important as it use to be. Buyers have multiple choices of where to search these days. But I would rather have it than not have it. The buyers I'm working with now are using Redfin, Realtor, homes.com, and zillow.

 I know a lot of real estate agents who swear by having an IDX on their website.

Good morning Fred. I get a steady stream of inquiries that come from my website that get there as a result of my blogging efforts.

My property search is very popular with customers and clients. 

my buyers rank it very high so I do too.  My search is unique that A- it can be saved, B- it can be shared on social media C- we can comment on houses and photos with our clients and D- it updates every 15 minutes and will alert  clients of new listins from "immediately" to monthly depending on their selected setting.  Yeah, it's very prominate and important to my site.

It is very important is you have good seo or using a solid lead gen site. 

I have a lead gen site that brings us several hundred leads per month almost all bc of the idx search, lead capture and auto crm.

I think it is extremely important and I have many people that sign up for it on my website every week. They register and that tells me they really want what my website can give them not Zillow or Realtor.com.

People who have the IDX swear they get business from it, but as a buyer, I go to Realtor.com before I go to my agents site.

It is essential. The more we divert the search from Z, T and the other sites, the less we will need to compete with them.

It's essential, and the IDX I use is probably better and more accurate than Z of T. I find buyers search in multiple places, so I want to capture them, and the search IS prominently displayed. It's waht most buyer are doing online I think

I would say it's essential...assuming you want to keep people on your site.
