I am retired but actually wish I still could be.  The benefits go far beyond most people's understanding.  NAR is like having a powerful computer but we only use a fraction of it, so we complain about how much it costs.

We were commercial real estate brokers in Los Angeles.  Among the 800 worked on the Westside no one was a member.  Perhaps it is changed now, however, most of the top producers still are not.   When we started working on branding and marketing luxury real estate companies and agents, and advising real estate support companies, we did go to several NAR conventions, and spoke at one of them for what was then Prudential Fine Homes.

Is it necessary to be a success in real estate?  I don't think so.  I do know than in certain areas of the US, you cannot be an MLS member unless you are a member of NAR.  And yes, I have seen some who don't join the MLS and still make a 6-7 figure income.  A
