Yes a half inch a month is about right. My friend's hair grows faster than that.

Are we talking back hair?  I'm a beast in that category.  

 Hair - this is when my brother and I decided to become long-hairs.  We didn't get a haircut until about two years later, when we joined the Military.

The woman who cuts my hair can't believe how fast it grows. 

I can see I will need to twist my ears clockwise to catch-up with some commentors here.

I think I once went 2-3 years without a hair cut (in my plastic hippie days).

All I know is that my hair grows faster from the roots - and the grey shows up quickly! The ends don't seem to grow very much - the color stays the same there. Hummmmm.......
