Wait. Why do I need to own all this property? That is irrelevant. The point is that I do. Would you be interested in viewing homes that have additional property so you can own your own? We can find you a beautiful home in a neighborhood with lots of Bernie supporters . . . LOLLL

Oy . . .  her question is rhetorical Annette Lawrence , Palm Harbor, FL 727-420-4041.  With the surveyors marking the boundary, there is no further question or legal issue as to 'whose land is this'.  Sad that she has no backyard though, so I'm assuming there was no fence in place when she bought her house - meaning she knew because she could see it, that there was no backyard.  Is it possible that you could sell her some of your 99% so that she could have a backyard, if it was after the split rail fence, since that is 16 feet before reaching the neighbor's backyard?  I'm sure your neighbor was lashing out in emotion, because she was so upset.  I would not ask if I could buy her another house, with a backyard, even though some have suggested that, because she will not find that amusing, and that would not diffuse the situation.  Let us know what you decide . . .

I just read in the paper this morning that a SWAT team had to diffuse a property line dispute between neighbors in a rural area about 30 miles west of here.  Guns were involved.

Either make her move the gazebo and enjoy "all that property" that is legally yours and on which you pay taxes OR grant her a legal easement with a proviso that you have the right to withdraw it at will (in case you want to sell your property without any encumbrances).

Amazing just had this conversation yesterday with an inactive Broker. He and the neighbor thought the lot line was X and the neighbor house was sold and a survey done and now the war starts!

It has cost a few marriages and friendships needless to say.

If I didn't need all that land, I would ask her how much cash she has on hand to buy a 10' strip. If price is right, I'd do a boundary line adjustment.

It's your property, period, end of story. Just tell her to move her stuff over to her side. On the other hand, I suppose you could offer to sell her some of your land for some outrageous amount of money.

I'd respond with: "You know, you're right.  It isn't fair that I've been here for years and you just moved in and didn't do a property line inspection.  I'll make it fair and sell you a portion of the land I fought hard to earn and purchase.  How does $40 million dollars sound?"

Ha! I bet she used a broker who did not look at her survey or adcvise her about what she really owns.

At this point the only thing that you can do next is send her a copy of your survey.
