Interestingly enough, this question came up in a recent mandatory update course I attended. There were many who talked of the causes they supported, the percentages of their sales they contributed, and many ReMax agents who told of their international support of The Children's Miracle Network.
The lawyer/teacher suggested we all stop doing it immediately as it is a RESPA violation and is considered offering an inducement in exchange for business. I thought that was enlightening.

My company is the largest supporter of the Childrens Miracle Network here in Chicago & it was $33,000.
We usually haul in a bunch of cookies for the girl scouts - we're talking cases. Some kid usually gets an award for that.
We mail kits to the soldiers overseas with boxes of 'care' items that they might need. They make the kits - they label them & then ask people to take a couple & mail them USPS priority. It's about $11 or so.
Food pantry stuff too.

I contribute 3% of every sale to Children's Miracle Network.
Also a supporter of Sheriffs Youth Ranch. This is $2,500 annual and appr 40 hours.
The Spring is a shelter for those abused. I heavily donate to their annual fashion show fundraiser.
Beacon Street is a local feeding program that get $100 monthly.
And personally I work with what is now Duke Energy, to pay utility bills when the power is about to go off.
There are so many, more that imagineable, who are suffering and hurting all around us. But "I" can touch one at a time. Sometimes it is with time, other situations is less costly and require only money.
If "they" want to put the cuffs one be because of RESPA, go ahead. I can think of no better cause for which to be found GUILTY!

Back when I was with ReMax Canada, I hosted an annual Yard Sale For The Cure (ReMax.ca was a corporate sponsor then) My clients loved it, especially my new Sellers who were able to drop off all their "decluttering treasures"! 100% of the proceeds went towards local Breast Cancer Research. These Yard Sales were held at the same time, on the same day across Canada, hosted by ReMax offices and anyone else who wanted to get involved. I found it created great community spirit and even though I haven't been with ReMax in years, I still have people ask me if I'm hosting a Yard Sale For the Cure? It is something you might want to consider starting up in the US ? It could be HUGE
