The coming and going of people is not new. Its when it is close to home one wonders more about it...No one really outlives anyone in the end

Both of my parents have passed and my dad lived to almost 94. He enjoyed life until the last. I want to follow in his footsteps.
Fast and famous lifestyles have all kinds of pressure and influences. It can ruin a good life.

My dad is still going strong at 86, probably because my mom is only 70! I hope to be as sharp and agile as they are when I'm their ages!

I hope so, but only God knows. Sadly, my parents were in their 70s and died way too young.

I think my Dad at 84 just may be "living" more than me. He was skiing 3 days a week and playing indoor tennis when not!
The sex drugs and rocknroll thing, well its a crap shoot. A lot of our idols are just aging out now. Bowie was my all time fav and I was very sad about him passing but cancer has no boundries. It already got my best friend this year(62) and a classmate last week @ 60.

Many do outlive their kids, especially those who make it into their 90's

My parents are both 76 this year and still going strong. They just had a major life change by moving their business and home to another area. They are doing well and hope to have them around for at least another ten years or more, God willing!

I wonder if parents outliving children is a blessing or a curse. I have seen what my parents went through with the loss of my siblings; it really took a toll on them mentally and had physical effects.

Both of my parents are gone - my dad was very young when he died and my mom was 80 - I am already older than my dad by 10 years and I hope I outlive my mom's 80 years so I can see my grandson, Hamilton, grow up and watch my daughter have a family too.

My siblings are all more than 8 years older than me and still going strong. Hopefully we're on track to match my grandmother who made it past 100.

It is sad. I do not want to end up like Jimi or even Prince who is exactly my age. I was born n 1958
RIP to all the people who are no longer with us, who have passed away at a young age and who have been unhappy with their life.

Sadly, no. My parents and grandparents lived long lives.
And it's not only rock stars who die young! Steve Jobs and several Realtor buddies come to mind.

Don't forget the lead guitarist for Slayer!
I think in general we'll out live our parents because of all the perservatives in our foods! Now as to rockers, if it was just their lifestyle... how is Keith Richards still alive?

I don't really understand what the question is. Are some people living longer? Yes. Do rockers live "hard and large" and may pay the consequences? Yes. Most parents do not outlive their children, statistically.

dump the smoking, drugs and alcohol.... hang on to the sex.... workout everyday.... and eat "clean"..... you'll make your children wait decades longer for their inheritance..... that's what I've told mine!!! dont' spend that money yet....it will be another 30+ years before you see it....I'm 70 this year.... 125 pounds with 19% body fat.... no medication....

I'm not trying to bring up a morbid or negative subject. But planning my Mom's birthday party just got me thinking about how very lucky my siblings and two generations of grand and great grand children are to still have her around and so lucid and vital.
Then whence watching a TV program/memorial for Prince while writing my Mom's B-Day invite this past week it got me thinking about all the celebs of my "Baby Boom" generation and even some of the X'ers and Millennials who are no longer with us and are several decades younger than my lovely Mom who has been blessed with such a long, happy and reasonably healthy life.
At 70 having gone through an open heart surgery this past year and having so many of my own personal friends and even a brother no longer with me it just made me realize how short life really is and how we all seem have taken life so much for granted.
I guess I was just having a sentimental senior moment folks. Thanks for indulging me and please enjoy each and every day of the rest of your life.

Happy birthday to your Mom. The last of my parents, my Mother, died in 1998. My Mother-in-Law passed away in 2003 at the age of 98. We are now the oldest in our respective families, so no one is living with us and we don't live with our kids.
