I think it is more about the culture of the company and whether you feel comfortable with it. Franchises will cost you more money but have lots of tools they offer you. Most agents don't use them though.

I worked with both and a smaller company with less rules and more personal approach is my preference. 

I'm with an independent and it's working well. Never tried the big box or franchise office.  

I've been with both and they each have advantages and disadvantages. No one can answer that question but you...interview with a couple of each and see which feels right. When it's a good fit, you will know it.

I work for a real estate corporation and prefer it. In the past I have worked for a franchise and I really don't like having to pay franchise fees.

Independent and because why pay franchise fees?

That's a personal choice as not all are the same

I was with an idependent and kept losing out on listings because it wasn't a national brand. Joined RE/MAX and voila! Never lost a listing again because sellers thought I couldn't give them national and international exposure in a big way.

I have tried both and like to personality and mix of agents at my current Better Homes and Gardens office.

We have only worked for independents, and then opened our own firm.  It is who we are.  Franchises are wonderful also, and they are suited for other people.  Know yourself, and then research, and then decide.  A

Independent.  Bought a franchise in 1993, they did not deliver on the promises, demanded too much in fees - I canceled the agreement.

Ive worked at both...prefer independent. I like the small office and close knit atmosphere

Independent....I don't have to work as hard to pay the extra fees

I like being Independent! Have been both and love it where I am now!

The knowledge and the integrity of the managing broker are key. Then the rest is personal preference.

It depends on what the individual is looking for.  We are lucky we  have so many choices.

For others I would say go with the broker who has the proper transaction count and can engage you in transactions that align with your business plan as soon as possible.

Franchise, RE/MAX, you will make more money.

For over 40 years I have worked with independent companies and have loved every minute. However, it might not be for everyone.

I work for the fastest growing company in the U.S., no franchise fees.  It is a great place to hang your license. 

It depends on the situation.

I have been with both. I have my own little independent firm with one other very trusted and capable agent. We are not so busy that we cannot take care of our clients as should be. This makes a big difference when it comes to repeat business which is a big part of our activity.  In a small firm, pay your agents top dollar and they will reward you time and again !!

I am currently with a franchise. They promote that agents develop their own brand and build their own business with the franchise's help. I have yet to hear anyone say that they called me because I am with franchise x. I tend to be independent and considering getting my broker's license as soon as I am eligible.

We are all independent, but we do cooperate with many other firms throughout the country.
