I target every house, especially the ones where someone is home.  There are a thousand reasons people sell and many of them occur before 5 years. People also talk about you with their neighbours, the more they see you the more top of mind you become.  They tell you of others that they heard are sellling too.  Knock away my friend!

I have 3 signs-no solicitation, no realtors or missionaries.

Whoever leaves flyer on my door I will not vote for him.

I also contact City for failing to have a SOLICITATION Badge and that is $350 fine.

I have one time a rookie who knocked and I asked about his solicitation permit. He ran!

Californian are so "anti-door answering" I'm in the camp of "its not worth it anymore."  I do leave flyers at doors, however, when I'm listing a home as a means to publicize the listing, but no actual door knocking/bell ringing for me.

P. S.  I count neighborhood walking days as "Grace Don't Gotta Go to the Gym" days, and that's ALWAYS a good thing!

I would knock on every door, because there is no way to know if they know friends and/or relatives who would love to move into their neighborhood.  I would not just be looking for sellers, but for buyers, too Mick Hall.

I door knocked a couple of years ago in a neighborhood that my buyer specifically wanted.  She wanted a home backing to open space, so only knocked on those doors.

Since I'm in the neighborhood I hit every door.  I have a neighborhood list for owners and absentee owners/landlords from my escrow company so I know if it is a rental or home owner living there.  Every person we talk to is a possible lead so I say know on every door in your farm.

OMGosh...I live in an OK neighborhood and would not dare knock on a door unless I lost a pet.

A good way to get a door slammed in your face...or maybe shot. This is 2016...many people who knock on doors are just casing the joint.

Why would one only target houses sold more than 5 years ago.  Some people move after owning the house less than 5 years.

Every door. Easy to keep track where you have been.

Now there may be purpose of the visit that would be more selective for example if you are collaborating with a local business who is giving away 10 gallons of exterior paint. The brick house would be a good one to skip.
