I have to admit, I don't pay much attention to the eaves of a house unless I'm looking for dryrot/termite issues.  This treatment would hide that and I rather like the sealed up look.

I see a lot of that style in Santa Barbara homes. Has a Mission look to me. I am neutral on the look.

I'm partial to exposed eaves and think they give a more authentic look.   There's nothing wrong with this exterior just a personal preference.

My question would be, how does that affect rain downfall?  Does it interfere with drainage routes?  It looks oka, but I don't live in an area that has tile roofs.

No idea about Santa Barbara styles, but I admire the simplicity of the way the clay tile curves over the front and seals out the rain.  I think it's smart and I don't see how that particular detail detracts from the house.  Other comments were sometimes unfavourable, but they didn't apply to this curving detail.  I think they were about something else.  As with lots of architecture, either it works for you or it doesn't.  I don't see the curved tile as a deal-breaker at all, Mike Rock.  

Would I live there?  I doubt it.  The columns are thick and heavy-looking. They are ungracious, pointy and serve no purpose for that size (nothing above them).  This entrance does not have good feng shui:  the columns have the effect of pushing people away (literally, warding us off like a guard) instead of inviting us in.  It may be the Santa Barbara style, but it isn't my style.

The roof may have needed work, but I think you are focusing on the wrong problem if you are trying to create a house with high curb appeal.  To fix it and change no architecture (those columns need to be half their size or less in order to let the person see the house itself), I would put a climbing, flowering plant (rose? but not a hibiscus which is stiff and straight) in front of each column with a little trellis, probably wrought iron or tin, with little leaves sticking out here and there.  Keep it curvy and simple, not busy.  It can be a bit wider than the columns to hide the corners and should be higher than the bottom of the nearby windows.  Add flow and colour, Mike. Draw the eye away from all those corners with beauty.  Make the columns inviting; they are keeping your customers out.

Since you asked, I will be brutally honest. It is too gaudy looking for my taste...looks like an afterthought and the colors don't work with the neutral color of the house.

Maybe it would look better if the pic was not a closeup but of the whole house?

That said, if that look is consistent with typical Santa Barbara styles, it is probably fine but I would not be interested if I were looking in that area.
